My tape measuring in Freedom Units looks to be right around 3 3/8”.

No, still running the same 3 year old bulbs.

Currently installing projectors. I think my stand-off-ish-ness is due to never having a schmancy vehicle with projectors before. They are growing on me.

 

So, be careful with projectors, not aiming them like everyone says; but the cutoff. I only say this because your deer (stupid autocorrect)population. The cutoff can be sooooo damn amazing that it almost distracts you from the background that isn’t being lit by the cutoff. It’s also that extreme contrast of light and dark that can mess with your vision and make it hard to see what’s above the cutoff. If your blazing the hi beams, it won’t be as big of an issue.
I can’t find the videos, but it’s crazy how fast shit is right in front of you before your lights are on them

I'm still gonna run the light bar with the HB temporarily which casts aways out there.

What Projectors did you buy?

 

@SouthPaw's set up.

Standard oem look with no fancy strip lights.

They are really growing on me as things get darker. The hood lights are also proving their worth tonight

 

Did you do the halos? @robabeatle’s looked super shnazzy when he was tail gunner

 

Nope, just a basic Projector set up.

I wanted as little extra wiring as possible.

 

Can someone give me a crash course on adjusting the headlights?

I understand the mechanics, and the "how" I've never really understood the piece of paper thing or angles or all that jargon.

Break it down into hillbilly what I'm shoot for.

 

I don’t know how much if there is a side to side adjustment, but go to the church or flat spot with a wall, get 25’ away from it, measure the center dot height on the light(the very center of the light)
And your cut offs should be 2-3” lower on the wall, than at the truck, to start with. check out HIDplanet.com if it’s still running

I'm on as flat as a spot as I can find without leaving the home road because I don't have my turn signal housings in.

 

i think I remember the right light being stepped more higher than the left one vs. what you are showing. But it's been a long time since I had fancy headlights.

I believe the bottom of the passenger step, should blend into the bottom step of the driver. I can’t tell where his passenger step is, which might mean he’s pretty damn close.

edit:now I can see it, not exactly in-line, but super close, either raise the driver or lower the passenger

 

Yes exactly! Now think of that driving and sorta not paying super close attention.

Edit: I have to estimate that the driveway to my left was approximately 35 feet from me. Maybe I need to adjust the headlights up some.

The driver side step, the one at the left edge of that garage door, is shaped like that for a reason, that lower step is basically lighting the opposing traffic lane, and it stepped down to not blind the oncoming driver. That driver side step is basically middle of the lane, it then cascades over to the passenger side where it meets the passenger side of the step, which illuminates the rest of the lane plus more of the side of the road.

I read a few articles about projectors when I was waiting for these to come in, but none of them made as much sense as this.

Hahaha I was going to write a disclaimer: other than aiming and adjusting headlights on the 4runner, I have never done any of what I’ve just explained to you!
Like you, I’ve tried to read up as much as possible and watch and learn about what I’m getting into. I have a stupid projector project for the 4runner, but it’s just on back burner with 2 kids and now the tundra came into my life.......
I still lerk on the headlight junkie page, new shit is evolving all the time, intersting monopolies formed infront of your eyes!!
But no I haven’t thought about book writing or YouTube action, I need a hand model and a producer!!!

 

24 feet, and 7 inches from the wall. Truck is angled "downhill" towards door, and rolled slighlty downhill on drivers side.

 

I have a very distinct memory of the OEM headlights being "flush" at the top of the housings with the hood. That was before I'd hit a whole family of deer, and ran off the road, and replaced my headlights more times than I can count... lol
