I think this is one for the philosophers:

Is sea salt dissolved rock salt? Or is rock salt solidified sea salt?

Lets not let this divide our country! I for one will recognize different salts as each unique but all created equal. 'Murica! :oldglory:

    Another philosophical question.

Depends on your STP (Standard Temperature & Pressure) conditions. I'd say ice is frozen water. The same way that I'd assume Lava is melted rock.

So you seem to have an idea of the answer to your original question, so what is it? Dissolved rock salt or compacted sea salt?

I'd say salt is salt. Made up of Sodium and Chlorine, NaCl. But to the question i'd say neither. Rock salt is rock salt, sea salt is sea salt, but they're both salt, they both just contain different minerals from their elements. How would you categorize salt made in a lab?

Oh, gotcha. Well my question was more to the original, would you, or could you consider lab made salt sea salt? Or rock salt? And if one were to say, well that's lab salt, then it would null the original knowledge drop that all salt is sea salt...

I won't sit here and pretend to be a chemist. But I wise man ones said that salt is salt. But at the end of the day, salt types and for consumption age trey differant, you don't want to be using ice cream salt as table salt. Or at least the label tells you not to.

No need to over think it gents. Generally speaking, all salt is sea salt. Even rock salt was sea salt, the water simply evaporated leaving the salt.

Me being me, I would call salt manufactured in a lab NaCl. FWIW

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Cosmically speaking, water is created free of salt. And salt is naturally solid, so water would have had to originally leached the salt from somewhere.... like a rock.

If sealed in a vacuum I would say it doesn't need a date, but in a water bottle, with sunlight and possible air inside, I can see where algae or organisms can thrive. Doesn't mean I wouldn't drink it, but our litigious country no company would take that risk.

And I would guess chemicals in the plastic could slowly leak into the water. They say you shouldn't drink water in plastic bottles left in a hot car. The plastic reacts with the heat and poisons the water.

I've read the date on water bottles is bc of the plastic bottle, not the water.
