DSC_1503.jpg Picked up and installed a 27F, X2 Power battery from Battery +, along with new Battery Terminals from SDHQ.
Found a discount code for 20% off and a mail in rebate for $20 for the battery, still pricey.

if your looking for a battery that has a lot of amp hours for accessories an such. I recommend the XS Power Battery , for are Trucks they don't have the exact group number but it only varies by 1" in a lower height. if you use post's you will have to get the post adapter's. I bought mine because of my stereo plus all of my aftermarket electrical needs. at some point I will be removing the post's an going to a bus bar setup.

Are you guys changing your alternator to a higher output or any other mods to help charge this beast?

You would need a voltage booster.

I also have the exact same setup and it has been great. Removed it out from my 4Runner when I traded it for the Tundra. I don't have a voltage booster but every couple to few months I throw it on the charger just to keep it happy. I switched out the 12V plug in the dash for this (see link) to keep an eye on it.

This is what you have to do to maintain an AGM on an 18+ truck. The voltage to the battery is regulated by the ECU. It no longer is done by the ALT fuse like previous models. Only way to increase voltage is to change duty cycle in the ecu, which tuners haven’t cracked yet for 19+.

This is why I ultimately went with a wet cell with a good warranty. Having to constantly monitor an agm wasn’t worth it to me.

Why? I feel people go overboard trying to maintain an actual maintenance free battery. I know people feel they need to boost the alt. output by ~.5V but I haven't heard of any actual bad experiences using the X2 Power (or it's equivalent) battery so I'm interested to hear your issues.

I put in a LActrical High Output 300amp Alternator into mine. I found i was using all the power that it the stock one was making while driving and not getting a good charge. So i went to this one , haven't had any issues.

Dont forget if you upgrade your alt you need to upgrade your wiring.

Amperage is not what determines if the battery gets charged or not, voltage does. You can put a 500 amp alternator in but if you’re not supplying the proper charge voltage an agm requires you’re wasting your time and money.

14.4V X Amps = Watts is the calculation.... if your watt demand is greater than half of the number by the stock alt output your not going to get charge 1 bit while running and using all your needed watts. Your alt will not charge your battery and your battery will lose charge.

We’re talking about proper charge for an AGM battery. Nobody is talking about watts nor is it relevant to charging an AGM battery.

That doesn't even make sense , it sounds like you wrote the same thing twice.... someone a couple lines up posted a question i was responding to. Then you jumped on me.... i'll just take my 12V self out of here.

It makes absolute sense. I was informing all that a higher amperage alternator won’t make a bit of difference if the running voltage is not correct for an AGM battery. These trucks are not designed to charge an AGM. So if you’re going to run an AGM, you have to modify the voltage regulation, which is not done simply by changing the alternator.

Because it died on me twice within the first 6 months of purchasing it.

First time I was 3 months in.
Got it to start the truck, voltage was 10.8, truck wouldn't start.
Batteries Plus gave me a loaner battery, tested the battery said it was fine.
Told me if it happened again they would replace it.
They kept the battery for 3 days charging and testing.

Toyota said my charging system was fine when I had it in for an oil change that week.

I bought the HKB booster and an AGM charger/maintainer after reading the AGM batteries like a higher output than the 13.4 volts the stock alt was putting out.
HKB brought it up to 14 volts, still have it in the truck.

3 months later it died again and that was with me hooking it up to a charger/maintainer once a month.
I called Batteries Plus and reminded them they told he if I had any more problems they said they would replace the battery.
Manager told me he would still have to test it and that they had no loaners.
Remember they kept the battery for 3 days last time they charged and tested it.
I reminded him one more time that he said he would replace the battery, he refused.
I can't go 3 days without my truck.

So, I drove over to Interstate battery and bought a MTP-27F.
Used my 6 month old $219 Batteries Plus X2 Power AGM battery as a $20 core charge trade in.
Even if Batteries Plus charged and tested it, I don't want the same battery back.
I charged it myself at the 1st of every month when it started lagging on the start..

I couldn't sell it in good conscience knowing that there is something wrong with it.
    Maybe I got a lemon, I don't know.
What I do know was I was tired of having to check my voltage meter EVERY TIME I got in and out of the truck.
To top off my sad story, I never got my rebate check from Batteries Plus from the initial purchase.
So fu(k Batteries Plus and AGM batteries..

    So before you ask anymore questions;
NO, the truck does sit for periods of time, it is my daily driver.
NO, I never had a battery issue before the AGM with my first or 2nd battery for this truck, AGM was the 3rd.
NO, my truck doesn't have a huge parasitic draw that would drain the battery, never had an issue until I bought the AGM.
NO, I haven't had anymore problems since telling the Batteries Plus manager to GFYS, and trading his battery in for a $20 core charge for the Interstate.

The new Interstate has been great, I should have kept the one I had, but I got caught up in the AGM hype.
Just checked it, 12.8 volts haven't started it since yesterday.
A quick start bumps it up to 13.7.

    g6attzkp_f4e24b5246639afb8dc2d3cd986bc20e623081a0.jpgzc946iwl_f5659020937fe97805e269d0651d5e62d5e106d4.jpg

SO, my X2 Power experience was nothing but a PITA..

Taco guys use a $10 Ford fuse/diode. Bumps charging up to 14.4-14.6 volts.

Hm interesting. I thought it was still ALT-S since that fuse is still there

Is there a thread somewhere that talks about the 18/19 tundras? This is the first I’ve heard of it being in the ecu.

on the 16+ Tacoma, that fuse doesn’t exist any more. I’ve modified the charging voltage in my Tacoma using the vF tuner software. If it’s actually in the ecu, that would be cool. It was easy to tweak on my Tacoma.

Yes I know. But 18+ Tundras and I believe even the Tacoma’s are regulated through the ECU now.

    Just to be clear.

A 2010 with an AGM battery and a voltage booster should work?

Problems only seem to be with 2018 and newer?

    Is this correct?

I went back and looked at the purchase.
    I don't where I got $219.

The base price for the 24F X2 I bought was $309.
I think it was 20% off and then another 10% off to order online.
Even though the math doesn't seem to add up to be exact.

    https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/sli24fagmdp

    Subtotal: $250.99
    Fees: $3.00
    Shipping: $0.00
    Tax: $20.46
    Total: $271.45

I also had an online rebate for $25 or $30.
I never did receive the rebate check.
That would have brought it closer to $242 if I would have gotten the rebate.

But I'll tell you this, I'll never buy anything from Batteries Plus again..

I just had to replace my x2 group 27f marine, in our 4Runner. I would occasionally put it on a tender. It gave us nothing but raw power whenever we needed it!!!! It lasted over 4 years in one of the hottest climates in Arizona, very short drives, all stop and go traffic.
I will be more diligent about putting it on the tender now, hopefully get 5 full years out of the new one!

Why am I seeing a .5 volt increase after adding a HKB booster fuse on my 2020 then?

If you don't mind me asking, do you have an aftermarket head unit?
