Yeah he passed away around 2 years ago. Awesome guy. Somebody bought that truck from his daughter and I haven't seen it since. He had the full Ivan Stewart kit on it with a supercharger and enough paint detail to make a high end hot rod jealous. That truck should have been put in a museum.

 

Truck looks amazing, but that leftover wax under the bedrails is heavily rustling the jimmies of my OCD.

 

Details please? Also, what's the rest of your system. I'd love to hear your thoughts after the install.

 

Do you think it's wax? I took a topper off yesterday for the first time and was concerned it was scratches. Any tips for removing it? Thx

 

Oh crap! I didn't realize or remember it had a topper. It could very well be scratches then. What does it feel like when you run your nail across it?

The bed rail caps pop off by pulling up. There's probably a shortcut to do it w/o breaking things, and maybe I stumbled on the correct way, mine popped off easily enough so I could clean, buff and wax under.

If it's wax, your fingernail* or a stiff toothbrush should knock it off easily. If not, I'd pop the rail off, wash to gently remove any debris and use a towel to buff it off and do another up/down fingernail test. If it's actually cut into the clearcoat, I'd get a slightly aggressive compound like No 7. Compound and work the line with it. Test on the leading edge with just a little dot on your finger, rubbing in a circular motion for 30 seconds, then buff away with clean towel to see what happens. If it helps, do the rest of the line, then work it back over with an auto polish - I like Meguair's Ultimate Polish - then follow-up with wax to seal the deal.

I just realized I left the name of my preferred compound out. For buffing stuff like this, I typically prefer "Nº 7 Compound" which I think you can get in a tub at any big box auto parts store. If it's a small area, a lot of times I won't bother with a terrycloth, just use my finger, or if seriously bad I'll use my fingertip inside a towel, dab the towel in and buff.

Either way, quick fingernail check should tell you what it is, scratch or wax.

Fluid a little dark but I wouldn't ding him for it, maybe its ATF.

 

I’ve been oogling this chrome one he had on. Was thinking it was a chrome over cap of some sorts.

I like the red painted OEM version in your pic too.

 

He kept changing little parts like that. I can't recall if he went from painted to billet or the other way around.

 

With how caustic brake fluid is, not sure I'd use something chromed right there.

 

Its billet aluminum, not sure of there is any chrome on the inside. Shiny parts have never been my style but I have to respect that level of sanitary.

 

I'm assuming the outside of the truck was just at meticulous? I approve.

I saw 20k but possible she asked higher before. He had crazy low miles on it because he was in the service and his truck spent most of its time parked indoors. Pretty hard to put a price on that, not your average used truck.

I got a minidsp 6 x 8 with UMIK 1.

Kenwood DMX 706s HU which actually has a lot of processing options like time alignment and crossover modification. This HU feeds a Kenwood 5 channel amp: 75 x 4 (Which now will be used to power the front woofers and tweets individually. No rear speakers now.) Plus a 500 W channel powering two Alpine 8 inch subs in the Q logic box. Rockford fosgate speakers that have 14 gauge wire and the tweeters have a protective capacitor installed today. The whole interior had CLD, CCF, and MLV treatment which was a 40 hour job alone.

It took my most of the day to install as I had to pull out the interior again. (Hey might as well vacuum again too.) Re-routing wires, soldering, checking in with work though the day...

Tomorrow I plan to take some measurements to get a driver's side tune done. Basically I place the mic in the location of the drivers head and average over a few where the mic is moved around a few inches on each side of the head. Run a pink noise sweep on each side individually and then use filters (parametric eq's) to hit my target curve. I am using REW which is nice in that it downloads the filters used to hit my target house curve right into the minidsp. There is a wired remote that am setting up to control one channel's volume, which will be my sub channel. There is also the option to save various tunes so that when I am solo, I get the best sound and when there are others, I can hit a button and change the tune to a passenger tune or up front tune etc.

I was going to go this far but i guess I have a pickier ear than I realized. All my equipment is solid and the interior is nailed down but some parts of the frequency band are just attenuated enough to drive me nuts. An automobile interior is acoustically challenging and after seeing various measurements from others online, I can't wait to hear how much this improves the sound further.

 

Once I hit 55 mph in 4hi I can feel a weird vibration in my steering wheel so I dont really know if you should go that fast? Not sure
