Today I learned how to mig weld and threw on a magnaflow muffler. My welds look terrible. I mean absolutely terrible, so I’m not gonna show you, but it sure is fun. And I’m getting better.

Welding is definitely an art form. i practiced on lots of scraps before i finally got the hang of it. After you get mig figured out, Tig will come to you much easier.

I tried to stick weld first. But it kept sticking , so got a case of the fuqitz and pulled out a mig welder... practiced a few beads on some pipe and i felt confident enough I could weld my exhaust without leaks... which I did, but welding some tubing together vs being under the truck and trying to get all the angles is different by far. It’s fine though, I’m going to cut it off and do glass packs and a resonator next... getting that practice in

So I am about at the point of my last Toyota care visit which will include an oil change. After this I will be doing then myself so are there any parts I can provide for them to replace that will make things easier for me going forward, and will they even do that? I thought about the fumoto valve bit have also hear things about a metal filter housing? Any advice would be appreciated.

They might put the fumoto valve in for you, but I doubt they will swap the filter housing. The aluminum filter housings don't have the correct perforated tube in the middle, so you have to remove it from your current one and swap it with the short one in the aluminum housing. I doubt a dealership is going to be willing to put anything on the truck that isn't specified for it in their manuals, purely to avoid any liability. Each shop will vary, and you can ask yours in advance. Some might not even be willing to install the fumoto valve.

Makes sense. So is the FV worth it? And the only reason I ask about the filter housing is I have seen some post that the factory ones cracked.

I haven't installed my fumoto valve yet. :anonymous:

From what I have read it just makes it a cleaner oil change, and I am down for that. I opted for a 3rd party filter housing that has a fumoto type valve built into it as well, so I should be able to just hook up a rubber hose to each and have a relatively spill free oil change.

lol....not worried about being able to replace but wanted it there to make my next oil change easier instead of waiting to replace it at that time.

Yeah, I'll probably change my oil in the next week or so and install the parts. Who knows though, plans are like promises; made to be broken.

Looks like the twisty pieces that hold your factory floor mats in place.

It holds the kick panel by your left foot in place (near your toes.) Look for the plastic bolt-looking thing sticking out of the floorboard

My Fumoto was the best thing I’ve ever done to my truck. Do you have a link to that filter housing by chance?

I damn near lost one of those when I was tapping into my electrical for my bed light kit. Ditto on above. It threads on like a nut.

I used a hair dryer...held it about 2-3" away and not at any one spot for very long...at a corner, you should be able to use your fingernail and begin to roll the decal off enough to get a hold on it...keep the heat to it and it will peel off... On my Tacoma with black visors, it left very little adhesive to be removed however, on the Tundra with gray visors, you could see where it was removed...I used 3M Adhesive remover to take about 90% of the glue off...if your not looking for it you don't notice the slightly difference...still a heck of a lot better than the yellow decals...It really depends on the visor color and fabric type...I removed the decals on a couple of Corvettes and they came off with no adhesive remaining...you may have to use a mild scrub brush with the adhesive remover...just be sure not to scrub too hard as it might stretch the fabric...Good Luck!

Hey Guys, just my 2 cents, but I dropped the oil for the first time on my TRD pro at 1500 miles recently.. I too switched over to the fumoto valve. I do not understand why toyota located the drain plug so high up on the pan.. My old 85 xtracab had it closer to the bottom of the pan and thus allowed for all of the oil to drain out.. Not so much with the tundra. I had to jack up the driver's side abit.. Also, i found that when I was draining the last bit of oil out to the pan, some of it would get sucked back along outside of the bottom of pan and drip onto the trd skid plate which is a mess.. The fumoto should stop that. I also switched over to the aluminum filter housing, just for the hell of it..

    Potatoes.
How much oil comes out if you just remove the filter without draining the oil? I have yet to do an oil change on a Tundra since they are included in my service agreement for the next few years. However I do want to replace that metal housing and don't want to bother asking them to swap it.

I have no idea, since I have always pulled the drain pan plug first before I pulled a filter, on any vehicle I have owned.
