Best Rotor/Pad Combo?

What are everyone's opinions on the best rotors and pads for these trucks? I don't want a set that is going to warp in 5k miles. Currently, I have 60k on my stock pads and rotors, and very little warp on them, so i was contemplating just getting them turned... ideas?

 

Yeah, even my pads are still good according to the dealer the other day when the checked everything after my service appointment. It wouldnt be a bad idea to change the pads out though...

 

Ive had amazing results with Powerslot rotors and hawk lts pads. No pad build up on the rotor as the slots keep them clean which means no pulsation and warping. The hawk lts pads are a nice improvement over stock without being loud or dusty.

When the truck first came out and people started noticing the shortcomings of the factory rotors I maybe did a couple hundred of these kits with zero complaints other then lead time for the cryo treated ones.

 

Are these rotors and pads good for a 1st gen Tundra as well? Got a little over 100k on mine and will be looking into the rotors soon.

 

They work great on the first gen. HAWK makes first gen rotors that I really like. Ive had mine for 60k now with two sets of LTS pads - loving it.

I ended up going with the Stoptech Powerslot rotors, and Centric Fleet Performance pads. Just the front, $229 shipped.

 

Enjoy the new brakes, they will nice upgrade over stock! Wish you would have gone thru us tho as our pricing is less on that.

 

I saw your prices... From what was posted it would've been considerably more.. Like $40+ more per rotor, and I read that the hawk pads did not last as long as the fleet performance pads which are built for police cars, and fire trucks. My truck will never get used as hard as either of those, so I figure they should be good for a while.

I'm not entirely sure this is the truth... There have been a lot of issues with Toyota's rotors warping, which is pretty well detailed on most of the Tundra forums. I can't really complain, my stock ones got me to 60k miles, so obviously not a bad set. But, Toyota's OEM brakes were kind of pricey for OEM replacements, when, for a little more money, you could get a better performing product, in which the Centric Powerslots are also very well detailed on tundra forums as being great rotors. Not sure I trust TAP Auto Parts' word anymore as they were pretty slimy in their posts above, but there are plenty of other customer reviews that backed them up. I haven't put mine on yet, just gotta make the time to do it on one of my days off. I also read that you can wash your rotors to get rid of pad residue, and eliminate the "warping" feeling when hitting the brakes, but I've never tried it, and would rather just put new hardware on for that amount of work. I'll post back once I have them put on, and let you know what I think.

 

I think a lot of peoples warping problems come from over torquing the lug nuts.

 

I would agree. Need to find a shop that knows what they're doing...

 

Is the torque different for alloy wheels versus steel?
Do you have the ft-lbs figure handy?

 

I talked to the guys at 4 Wheels parts & they said the Red TRD Brakes really weren't worth it & that it would be cheaper (going through them of course) to go w/ Brimbo's for aftermarket brakes. I didn't have time to get into the specifics but I do recall them being cheaper in price & that included installation. This will probably be the next major upgrade for me.

 

I can tell you that the figure for the alloys are 97 ft-lb. I don't know the value for the steel wheels, I don't have them so I didn't bother to make a note.

Looking to upgrade rotors and brake lines. @dirtydeeds , not warping is good but I’d also want a rotor that stops quicker and has less fade. How do frozens hold up to the other major brands? Anybody been able to find RED stainless steel brake lines for our trucks? Also going to paint my calipers as the BBK is ridiculous expensive! I bought the TRD. Brake pads during the sale. $50 per axle. At that price they’re with a try!
