Truck is starting fine now. That was really strange.

 

Maybe altitude related?

 

It’s part of the mass air flow sensor. It’s the piece that’s visible on the sensor. 120-130 is usually right. When sitting at. Alight the heat from the engine heat soaks

 

Ok. Thank you! I was figuring that was where the measurement was taking place. This OBD reader is pretty cool stuff. I think I’ll be moving into MAF Study Mode on my next round of readings.

 

I'm not sure but I lean towards no. We drove home from the mountains and parked the truck for a few hours. The truck started fine then we drove 15 minutes to REI. After being inside 10-15 that's when it wouldn't start. I thought I was going to have to Uber home.

@empty_lord @Professional Hand Model I installed that ground cable yesterday and today my buddys tacoma wont start. does it not need the ground strap? He has been trying to jump it but it seems fully dead

 

How old is the battery?

Did it drain off somehow? Are the terminals tight? If yes, disconnect new ground and see if it starts. That ground is there for a reason on just about every car on the road.

 

he bought the truck a few months ago so its the same battery, not sure how old. Would adding a ground strap effect an old battery like that?

 

No. Negative post to body and/or engine block connections are typically good.

Try meter testing the battery.

he sent me this video if it gives any indication. I dont have a volt meter handy but if we cant figure it out I can take the battery to get tested

Thats what it seems. New battery time!

 

Got the battery tested and he says its fine. It doesnt need a charge or anything

 

Disconnect the new wire and see what it does.

 

could this be another ground? This is on the opposite side of the battery

 

no. if the battery tests fine, make sure the terminals are good and tight and clean. after that, make sure the wires are properly attached to the terminals

 

That looks like an ECU wiring harness ground. The white little wires going to the bolt lug.

 

Ight well it started. I cranked them down alot more this time. Its weird, I put the wire on yesterday and it started up three times in a row.

Post 7148 was directing you to try/test other measures. I’m assuming they were taken prior to the video being shot. Battery sounded dead, but you didn’t take the appropriate steps first it seems. Anyways, glad its working!

 

This might be the best feature of the new bumper.

just made it to arizona! Noticed at 70 when I let off the gas, the rpms take 2 secs to come down. almost like a lag. Is that part of the overdrive?

Yeah. He made a rookie mistake. Didn’t tighten the terminals and didn’t double back and check them when a problem arose. Its all good and we are glad his buddies truck is working again!

We live and we learn. @jImmegart did you spray your truck down with AeroSpace 303 before the trip?

 

Ugh, those headlights give me the heebie-jeebies. Almost like biting into an apple and finding half a worm inside.
