Broke the two front coil springs on my '07 GTI Fahrenheit. Looking for a good cheap fix (car has 185k, my commuter only to keep miles off truck). Was thinking about getting HR springs (front/back) OR cheap set of $500 coilovers. Hoping a fellow dubber had some good advice. @Darkness or any other VW people out there.

The cars is in Midwest snow belt, so curious if you think I'll need to replace some of the bolts/cups/strut mounts etc.

I'll be talking with the shop (whom is non dealers VW and Audi specialty shop/whom I trust) on Monday.

Car isn't worth much, but it's fun to drive and keeps the miles off the truck. Any advice welcome.

I would go with a set of H&R springs in a heartbeat. Cheap coilovers are a bad way to go in my experience. My GTI came with Raceland Ultimos and it rode like crap. On Koni now and pretty happy.

You could maybe look into replacing the front shocks while at it if yours are beat.

That was what I was leaning toward. I mean I'd have loved having a nice set of coilovers back in the day (100k miles ago) but spending a grand on suspension when that's about the market price of the car seems a bit silly haha. I really appreciate the input, and I'll check on the shocks.

I saw those, but not at those prices! I'll take it to the guys on Monday and get their take as well. Great info, I appreciate it.

They've always done me right (even let me walk in and rent a ridiculous vw tool once when changing axle), so maybe they have feedback on those cup kits.

Went with the koni strut/HR spring cup kit from urotuning. Also new top strut mounts. Then new plugs and coils while I was at it (likely due). Let ya know how it turns out.

Ended up having to change plans due to shipping back up. Went with FK coilovers. Just had the put on and they're much nicer than driving on broken front springs haha! Long overdue replacement of coils (and did plugs while at it) and the GTI is back in business! Can't decide if I want to drop it just a hair or not, had the guys install them high (it's a daily highway driver only), but idk how much of a pita it is to drop it a little or if it would get rubby... We'll see
