Hey guys. I just installed Bilstein 4600 in front and back on my 2017 1794. What a difference over stock. Truck feels better than new. If anyone is on the fence about upgrading to the 4600's, do it!

Perfect timing. I'm thinking of doing the same thing on my 14 1794. How would you describe the difference? Any other mods on your truck? THanks!

I have TRD dual exhaust and the TRD rear sway bar. That's it, no other mods. The 4600 feel "tighter" than the stock shocks. It's a really nice ride without being too firm. I would recommend them.

I kind of feel like an idiot. I bought the shocks and I "assumed" they were 4600's but they may not be. They are yellow and blue and say "toyota" and "bilstein" on them. Are these 4600's or just look alikes? Here is a pic.

Those are TRD off-road shocks which are a rebranded 4600.

Swapped em out today. Big improvement. I believe it’s mostly just because the old shocks were worn out. They didn’t rebound when compressed after being removed. Here is a pic of the new ones installed. Rides much better. Thx y’all.

Anybody looking to buy 4 of these? Less than 500 miles on them.

Don’t worry about brother it happens...like the posters said above they are TRD Bilsteins which are very different than the 4600’s outside of color. I spoke to Bilstein many years ago and the internals are similar but not exact and the valving is much different. The TRD is much softer and has a better daily driving ride whereas the 4600’s are stiffer and geared to handle weight better in my opinion.

do the red/blue TRD front struts require a different spring than the standard "black" struts on the SR5?

That may actually be a blessing in disguise. I am a fan of how the truck rides/drives since swapping these out. I'm not a guru by any means. I think I basically just replaced my shocks but didn't "updgrade". If the true 4600's are stiffer than these, I may have not liked it as much. I drive a lot on the interstate and so far, I really like the way my truck drives with these 4600 look-alike's

They took the spring from my red/blue shocks and used them on the 5100's I bought.

I'm in California. I'm willing to go to the UPS store and let you know how much it would cost.

So what is the consensus here?

The Toyota TRD Bilstein’s, whether yellow or red, are NOT as stiff as the 4600’s?

Are the 4600’s any different in size/diameter/length than the TRD’s?

And do you use the same front spring from the black shocks with either Bilstein shock….?

I have no experience with the red/blue OEM Bilstein’s. Edit: I lied, I took a TRD Sport Tundra for a long test drive. The 4600’s were stiffer in my memory. I was mainly referring the to the yellow/blue OEM Bilstein’s that are NOT the 4600’s. The 4600’s are a much stiffer shock and the lower shaft that connects the bushing mount to the main body is much thicker. Additionally the 4600’s are designed for stock applications only therefore I would assume they are the same length as factory. In all the different applications I have see 4600’s used (Tacoma, Tundra, Suburbans), they have never raised the vehicle and they would work with factory coil springs. Replacing coils and such would raise the vehicle back to factory height but don’t t misinterpret that as a lift.

Personally I see it this way

    Comfort=OEM Toyota branded yellow/blue Bilstein

Stability above all else: Bilstein 4600’s.

The 4600's have a larger diameter. I have the 4600's and do not consider them stiff. The ride feels more planted and not as "floaty" as the TRD off road shocks. Here is a comparison photo of the diameter. Length is the same.
