Nardo Gray wrap - In progress

So what kinda maintenance do yo do on a wrap? Just regular washing? Keep it outta the sun?

 

Stop it and just paint yours.

 

That's an OG Tundra right there.

I had one but just sold it. Rock solid for 20 years.

 

If you wrap it in black you can just drive it clean. Dirt can't stick at these speeds.

 

Mine is done. I'd have to bondo all the scratches and rock chips and peeling clear just to wrap it.

 

Today I picked up my Tundra from the shop. The wrap is all done.

Being that this is not a paint job, there are some areas where the white paint is visible like at the joint between the cab and bed. But that is to be expected.

The running boards were left white at my request as I'm planning on removing those soon.

The roof is wrapped in black. The door trim was also wrapped in black as all the rubber has peeled off from sun damage. Mirrors, both bumpers, body trim, and front grill were also wrapped in black.

 

That color looks so right on a first gen.

What size tires are you running on? I like the proportions.

Those form fitting OEM running boards seem to be a slightly "rare" item.

Personally, I would hang onto them just in case you get a lift later on. I looked for mine off, and on for 5 months. If you're looking to sell I'm sure that someone here may take them off your hands.

 

Paint those boards black! Keep them they will look nice in black. Its your truck, you’ll do whats best for you but they look sharp in black.

I am 50/50 in keeping/removing. I bought some matte black plastidip for the wheels, and I'll use it on the running boards as well. After that is done I'll make my final decision.

The chrome Patricks look good on your truck, plastidip seems to be a downgrade from the $$ you just spent, IMO.

 

I agree on the plastik dips unless its a temporary thing to see how it looks. As a later option, I recco the Smoked Aluminum for Wheels by Duplicolor for those preferring darker rims. Lots of work, but well worth it.

They look pretty nice for being beat up. Are they chrome? Hard to tell in your pics, but they have that chrome shine on them on my screen.

 

Your truck looks amazing. That wrap was a great idea. I agree with the others those steps might be worth painting black. Worst case you can still take them off later.

Unless you're still not sure about them. As mentioned earlier, Plasti-dip is a good temporary way to see if you'll like it.

I think they'll look great with the other black accents on your truck. @Darkness approved!

 

Also, if that gap really bothers you then you could always remove the bed and spray paint those white areas to match your wrap. I think it's fine though.

 

They are chrome. The chrome has peeled on the wheels in some spots. They are not horrible but, I can see the age of them.

That is why I'm planning on plastidiping them as a trial run to see which I prefer.

The integrity of the wheels is still there so I'm undecided on spending the money for a more permanent wheel or not.

Lastly, I do off road this truck so it is appealing to keep the current wheels as they are already "worn" and any new damage would be painless so to speak.

 

The gap doesn't bother me. I was pointing out the gap as an FYI, and that I'm aware of the gap. It's something that is noticed if you are looking at the truck with an eye for detail.

A casual look does not reveal the gap.

Those are the rare Patricks. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in person and only read about them deep in a parts catalogue.

 

I'm curious to know why these wheels are so special in the Tundra community.

 

I've seen them here and there, I don't know if I would say rare but far less common than the normal painted starfish wheels. Call me crazy but I think they look pretty good on your truck, at least in pics the damage doesn't show.

 

I like them myself. As far as being special in the community, I am not sure of that which is why many have gotten rid of them by switching into other aftermarket or Newer Toyota Type.
