Correct Spicer Carrier Bearing for 1st gen tundra EXACT TOYOTA OEM

Well, that's what drive train america says, but spicer says something different. Hence my confusion.

 

Service from Drivetrain America is great. They got hit by a bad storm. The whole town is down no power. They sent mine out Thursday 2-day FedEx. I got it Saturday before 2pm. Put it in Saturday. They did not have to do that.

 

Ha, I went through the same number game so let me add to the confusion! I have an 05 4x4 Limited. I contacted Drivetrain America and purchased 5002334 per their recommendation but I don't think it's the correct one as it doesn't have the bearing seal. It's on the truck now and works, has identical dimensions to the 5002007 per the Spicer spec sheets, but does not have the bearing seal.
Per the VIN lookup, I should be using 37230-34030 (5016911 Spicer) even though my truck came with 37235-35030 (5002007 Spicer).

The 5016911 and 5002007 have similar dimensions, except that the Center to Mount distance on the 5016911 is 1.136". The Center to Mount distance on the 5002334 and 5002007 is 0.244" so they hang almost an inch higher.

Per VIN and Dana, I should have bought the 5016911 bearing (https://www.danaaftermarket.com/spi...tr=5016911&cp=0&catalog=PIMS_NA&partType=PART) but I couldn't find a reputable place that sells it.

Update...so installing this was fairly easy. There are several useful YouTube videos. And, once complete it did seem to improve the vibration somewhat, but did not eliminate it. I hate vibration problems!

So...I have a vibration under my seat that starts at ~ 45 MPH and is very evident at 50 mph. I also have "shuddering" when braking sometimes, which I've come to learn is a common drive live problem on our trucks. In hindsight, I realize I've had the shuddering problem since day 1. I first though it was bad rear shocks (replaced), and rear brakes (on the list to do once I sort this problem out).

The steering wheel is tight, with no vibration at all. This pretty much eliminates front wheel balance, etc. Maintaining speed at 50 MPH I can shift in and out of OD, and the vibration remains constant. I even tried neutral with the same result. I believe this eliminates the transmission, torque converter, etc. (Tranny and engine mounts look good, seem tight...nothing moves when I rev the engine or shift from D to R with the brakes on). So...

I ordered new Spicer U-joints for the front (tranny) and rear (axle). After I removed the first u-joint I discovered that I had the wrong parts! (not sure if it's a RockAuto error or my own...I'll sort that out later). I chose to run to the nearest AutoZone to get some inferior parts rather than leave my truck in pieces for a week while replacements arrived. Neither joint was noticeably loose while on the truck or on the bench, but when disassembled the rear joint was badly worn on one journal, so I thought I may have found the culprit.

I put it all back together and went for a test ride. While improved, the vibration is still present. The next suspect is the double Cardan joint. The Internet tells me that "Cardan" is French for "Don't Touch", and I'm inclined to agree. I'm fortunate to have a Drive Shaft Shop nearby, so the next exercise will be to have the Cardan joints replaced and the shaft checked for balance, effectively yielding a completely re-manufactured shaft assy.

Did I mention that I hate vibration problems? Other suspects include the transfer case (bearing seems tight, no leakage) and the axle pinion (same deal...tight, no leakage). I'm receptive to any suggestions all y'all might have.

 

I may have missed it but are you running KO2's by chance?

 

Nope, just ordinary street tires...Goodyear in the front and Yokohama in the rear. This does not feel tire related at all, but I will rotate them and check the balance just to check the box. Stranger things have happened. A belt separation can sometimes cause similar symptoms.

 

Appreciate this post as well! I have an 03 Tundra, V8 4wd. It seems based on your post and the Dana site you linked that 5016911 is the carrier bearing I need. Where did you lookup your VIN to get 5016911 from?
I have noticed 00-02 and 03-06 seem to have some slight suspension, steering, and apparently now driveline differences, so this would make sense.

 

Shuddering in the seat is likely rear end, like driveline, wheel balance or rear brake issues.

Bring this thread back. Looking for a carrier bearing for my 2WD Double Cab. Toyota 37230-34030 says this is for a 4WD, does it matter or do I need to find a 2WD carrier?

Hey I'm from west Sacramento also. I got the precision but it doesn't spin

 

Was under the truck greasing the drive shaft. Had to Google how much play this thing is supposed to have. It's supposed to have zero. Mine is resting on the bottom of the bracket.

So ordered mine, 5%off still works. Came out to $71 for me.

Yeah, that's how I put it in yesterday and what a difference! My original bearing went after 170,000 miles. I paid over $100 for a Timken bearing and after I installed it, I gave the driveshaft a shake and it was actually looser than the shot one.


Took a drive and it vibrated worse than the shot one. I immediately contacted the seller and they wanted me to buy another one, wait for it to get to me, change it out and then return the bad one.


I told them I can’t have my truck down for a wee and a half so I said I was going elsewhere and they did issue me a pre-paid label to ship the bad one back…we’ll see if they give me credit without some BS.


So glad I found this forum and the post about the correct bearing. The Spicer was only $78 with shipping and it did say Toyota in the rubber.

 

Just placed an order for Spicer 5002007 from Autoplicity in which supposedly they have 10 in-stock. I couldn't find nobody that had it in stock. For reference I have a 04AC 4x4 with bearing part number 37235-35030. Hopefully I ordered the correct one snice these part numbers are confusing.

 

Yeah, this is hard to find at the moment. Just a heads up that I was able to find it (of all places!) via the Walmart site. $75.05 (+tax) with free shipping (and free returns just in case).
