• Toyota’s recall in areas of high absolute humidity launched in 2014 will expand to include approximately an additional 300,000 vehicles built through the 2006 or 2007 model year. This recall will now cover additional vehicles within model years 2005-2007 Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, and Sequoia; model years 2005-2006 Tundra; and model years 2005-2007 Lexus SC. Areas of high absolute humidity encompass Coastal Areas around the Gulf of Mexico for Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Louisiana; and Florida, Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Virgin Islands and Hawaii.

I was searching for front passenger airbag replacement campaign information and found this old thread. My truck is on the list as needing it. Does anyone know how long the recall/campaign takes to complete? Do they remove the entire dash to get to the old airbag inflator? I have a 2005 DC.

I went through this process of installing a new inflator at my local dealership. I had an appointment in the morning and it was completed before noon.
There's a cover above the glove box that had to come off ~ the passenger air bag is what's below and that's what they worked on.

The process could take an eternity or they could knock it out in just a few minutes depending on their workload ?

 

Just got a letter in the mail regarding the airbag for my ‘03. Was thinking it could be a scam, like my automotive warranty about to expire...

 

Anybody else go through with this process? I just got a letter.

 

I haven’t done it yet, but got another letter in the mail on Friday. I know when I went to our Honda dealer last month for some Odyssey parts, they had a pretty big pile of boxes in the parts dept, which was all airbags. Wonder how much money they really saved before the recalls? I know it cost much more than $$$ in the long run....

 

Well the stealerships are the ones making all the money. They kill it on recalls and warranty work. So I want to be incentivized upon bringing my truck in lol.

 

Ehhh.. warranty work is trash 90% of the time. Way under paid. Recall work... sometimes it’s decent. Most of the time it’s meh

 

Depends on the brand I suppose. Aftermarket warranties pay out more so than OEM warranties. All depends on the company. My sources are some Honda Service Advisors who know how to work the system and make repairs up.

I feel bad for some people though, they have their brand new cars completely taken apart to replace parts which arent needed only due to dealer greed.

I know for certain my local Toyota dealer's service department takes part in shady business which is why I want to be "incentivized".

 

Oh aftermarket warranty work is decent. Factory is trash.

I just got the letter for my 04

 

Entered my VIN at Toyota Corp Recall Site for 2002 and... nothing. Must be 03 and up.

 

There is a difference between warranty work and fraud though. They can do the same thing to a little old lady who just wants her wipers replaced and leaves with much more work done. Every tech I’ve talked to didn’t like warranty work cause it pays less and I think they rush through it. Not sure about recalls.

 

I just had my 06 Tundra done. Schedule with local dealer and just dropped it off, took them half a day. But on my little Nissan I had them tow it there, fix it, then bring it back. LOL.

 

2002 airbags are safe apparently..?

 

I think its a recall on a previously recalled airbag. I swear my truck has had 2 airbag recalls and I got a letter for another recently.

My wifes Honda had airbags recalled too, also Takata. Not sure how they stay in business.

 

Takata isn't in business anymore. They were acquired by another group.

 

Had the recall work done today. Dropped off at 7am, done at 1030. In the process, they found $4k worth of work needing to be done, including front CV shafts, front struts and a full steering rack. I know the boots are torn, it will need front struts, doesn’t seem to be leaking PS fluid.

 

I'll be taking mine later this week. Can't wait to see what they say I need...

My '03 is on the recall list, but my uncle's '02 is not. I need a new control module for the SRS system, but have been mostly unsuccessful in my ventures. If anyone with an '03 AC is wondering, your control module part number is 89170-0C080.

 

Yes it was. I appreciate them doing the inspection.

 

I had mine fixed on the first recall a couple of years ago, it took a half-day. Now they want to recall the recalled work and fix it again LOL. Their reasoning was that the first recall was an emergency fix, and this one will be the real deal?

Did you ever find the control module? I've been digging through the junk yards trying to find one. I gave up calling dealers after two dozen. Toyota said they were discontinued. Could not find any in the US, nor in Canada. My 04 has just 190K miles. Other than non-functioning airbags, it's in great shape.

 

I am also looking for a control module. My original needs to be replaced (not reprogramed). Will a used module work? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
