Tuner for a 2000?

Looking if any 4.7s are running a tuner and which one would you recommend I’m honestly pushing for more HP so I’ve already bought some 12 hole injectors anything else I should look at?

 

I’ve seen those on the site. They seem like a great value and will be curious to their quality level. I bet they will be just fine based on a hunch.

Those 12 holes don’t produce much in the way of horsepower that I can feel on my 2002. The biggest difference I felt was a change in shifting of the transmission. I could actually feel a downshift versus a lazy shift when slowing down to a rolling turn. The transmission actually is engaged in the turn now versus the lazy spin shift. Throttle response is very nice. Torque seems better. Horsepower? I don’t feel it. Also, they don’t give better mpg. Mine maybe .5 or maybe not.

Biggest difference is the modern shifting feel. I say do it!

 

The bang for your buck from tuners isn't great, but a guy recently got his truck tuned and pulled some nice numbers, I believe he is in Arizona as well. Trying to remember where he posted it.

 

I think dude was from New Mexico but the tuner is in Tempe(armpit of Phoenix)

Maybe I was thinking of where the tuner is, if I could get a bump in power like he did I would make the drive. I already have the Unichip.

You have to buy a Unichip and have it tuned by somebody who knows what they're doing. Apparently a guy in Arizona knows how to do it.

I don't understand this at all. What does "tuning" an engine do? Is it just tricking the computer to produce more torque? Why wouldn't the Toyota engineers just do this from the start? Is it harder on the engine?

 

In some time instances it can be as simple as a tuner "tricking" the computer to see different values and more power can be realized. Other examples can modify fuel, timing, shift points, etc. Toyota, as well as other manufacturers have to comply with emission standards so they often cant give us all that's available. Some of these modifications are legal for closed course/racing/off-road only and won't pass emissions/smog testing where it is required.

 

What @Lil Steve said. Sometimes there is a little left on the table, for naturally aspirated vehicles there is not usually a lot to be gained. I'm pretty surprised at the results but I don't know if the 03 motor has as much to unlock as the 05-06 motor does. Since I already have the chip, if I could turn 245 crank horses into 245 wheel horses I would go for that.

Tuning is usually much more worth the expense for turbo applications. My car can be taken from 180 horses to 250 horses with little more than exhaust and a tune. Still makes me laugh to think my 1.8T can have the same horsepower and almost the same torque as my truck.

 

Same. A $500 toon on my gf's SHO will get you from 375 chp to 400 AWHP. Amazing. Also, I've been looking at golf's lately. Thanks.

 

Golf's are such hit or miss, if its well cared for they're great but if not they can be a basket case like mine was. Mine will get exhaust and a stronger tune in the neighborhood of 235hp/280tq by Christmas.

I saw an episode from Donut Media yesterday that mentioned how Ford came close to building a SHO Ranger using that same Taurus motor. Thought about you when I heard that.

 

Yeah, I watched that one. They made a few, and a few people have made one. I may have to holler at you about golf's if I find one.

All jokes aside I only know much about mk4 1.8t models. Always wanted a VR6 but never got one.
