Hello all, did some searching and couldn't find a direct answer so..

When I got my truck one of the first things I noticed (with the back window down) is how noisy the bed is going over rough terrain at lowish speeds. Sounds like the whole bed is just rattling around. Can't remember if the few I test drove prior to this made the noise. Is this common and/or have a simple fix? I've read it could be the tailgate or the leafs, but I don't really have any creaking. Just sounds like the bed is loose in the back or something

Edit: here is a video of the noise

Let me help you out some, and I'll rephrase your question for you...

So what stereo upgrades do I need to do to avoid hearing anything from the outside world?

That should fix the problem for ya!!

And I've not noticed any bed rattle, will listen next time though.

Haha been there done that in many a previous vehicle

It's not something you have to specifically listen for, it's always present with the back window down so if you don't hear it you're probably fine

Going a bit beyond the bed here but, check rear spare tire and front skid plate for potential rattles/clangs.

Will do. Almost certain it's from the rear but doesn't hurt to check any suggestions

Nope haven't towed anything with er yet

    Will do that tonight

No sir, however, I have heard they do improve some noises

To be clear, there is a difference between bed squeaks and rattles. Squeaks are a more common issue. Rattles like metal on metal are not.

Do you still have the factory drop in bed liner? That created some rattling for me similar to what you are describing.

    All the usual stuff!
Mine does this too. I got no spare tire or chain mechanism to hold a tire. No drop in liner. The only think I can think of is the tail gate moves up and down on the passenger side and or the the rear window bouncing around in the track. But it definitely sounds like a part bouncing around in the box when you hit bumps. I’ve been under truck multiple times and can’t find anything that makes that noise.

Ya if its just normal bed rattle I don't really care how loud it is as long as it won't be detrimental down the line

Damn that’s more like clunking than rattling. Sounds like something is loose (spare tire? Exhaust?). I’d try riding in the bed and have someone drive you around to get a better idea of what it is, or just take it to the dealer and let them figure it out!

That’s not a normal rattle. I would schedule a visit to the dealer. It’s a 2020 - let them figure it out.

The noise you're hearing is actually a cable bumping into the back window glass, down inside there when the window is down. You can put a piece of dynamat or something in there. Google around and you'll find a fix. I saw one somewhere a while back. I thought it was the glass itself and it really seemed like a bad design, but it's a cable that moves with the glass as I understand it, and when it's compressed it slaps the window.

edit: I think it's bumping into the sheet metal instead of the glass. I forget. I would give you a link to what I found but it took a while and right now I don't see it. I think they just opened it up and put dynamat in the spot where it was making contact.

Can't blame you there. I'm pretty confident that's the issue because that's exactly what mine sounds like. I just let it be...for now at least.

YUP got the same thing Im in Manitoba just picked up my 2020 dont even have 200 KM on it and its rattling so bad just like that and the warped dash by the vent, Im not thrilled with this Truck ATM. Everyone is throwing things out there but have you taken the tailgate off? I haven't since I need 2 people, then you have to disconnect that camera cable, take it for a ride and make us another video. lol

Yes sir you are correct!! I just asked my buddy a Toyota Tech. They need to take out the entire back to get to the window and fix it however the tech sees fit. Its funny I never had these issues on my 2008 Limited.

I haven't looked, but I wonder if a guy could fish the cable out with a coat hanger and attach something to it there. I don't understand how Toyota could let soemthing that glaring go.
