    2019 2020 transmission cooler missing

    Update:

I encourage ALL 2019 and 2020 Tundra owners to call Toyota customer care @ 800-331-4331 and open a case asking why the external transmission cooler was removed and also ask what are the normal operating transmission fluid temperatures supposed to be?

I was informed by Toyota to a website that will have all of this technical information, it is a paid basis subscription. Once I have the answer. If the answer is there I will post it. I will say i have been told verbally that if i add an external transmission cooler (even with factory Toyota parts) the warranty my be void on the transmission because its a "modification"

Everyone has been commenting, and posting about the transmission cooler and the transmission fluid temperatures while driving around empty and while towing. Here is the transmission temperatures at the torque converter and at the transmission pan while Towing an empty 3600 lb trailer, on flat terrain, around 75 degree ambient temperature, about 35 MPH, in the rain. These temperatures in my opinion are way too high! So I reached out the Toyota. Toyota gave me a little bit of information. But basically just gave me free range of their TIS system. While searching for a few hours I came up with absolutely nothing with transmission fluid temperatures. I will be reaching out to them again to find out what the engineers are saying. Because this is something that definitely needs to be addressed. I bought an extended warranty on my TRDPro, And I do tow with it, but not excessively. If this is a matter of a transmission cooler that needs to be added then I will be doing it with Toyota parts. If any of you have heard from Toyota Engineers with fluid temperatures please feel free to share them. If not stay tuned

I have been more active on the Facebook groups but I will try and keep this thread as updated as I possibly can. As of today, Toyota admitted to me through TIS that WS transmission fluid that is above 221 degrees operating range is out of spec. I'm waiting on some more information from ExxonMobil as they are the supplier for Toyota WS ATF fluid. Once I have that last piece of the puzzle I can go with 100% full proof that the 2019 and 2020 Tundras need the external transmission cooler installed on them to keep the transmission within spec.

Here is some proof, unloaded truck with just me in it. Flatland country roads, between 40-55mph after 20 mins of driving

Here is a trip i took, this is in a town setting, constant low speeds, around 70 degrees, flat land for MILES, RAINING, while pulling an empty 3600 lb trailer.

This is concerning as I am the owner of a 2020 Tundra. Please keep us informed!

Fuck me! I have the 2019 Trd Pro too. I thought it was odd they didn’t include the transmission cooler on it. I thought it was only included with the towing package on certain trims similar to the Tacomas

Wow, if 221 is out of spec, we all better be getting a fluid change along with a cooler judging by all these high temps people have been posting.

Tell me about it. This has been an ongoing issue and I feel like no one, no one! has been putting any effort into getting this resolved. So I'm going to do what I can do. Because it's unacceptable. Toyota is known for reliability, and this will kill the reliability of the transmission! The fact they have removed this transmission cooler and replaced it with a warmer is unacceptable. The warmer make sense, get the transmission fluid up to correct operating temperature faster. But removing the external cooler is the dumb part. Especially since it's still States it on the window sticker. which is in theory, a lawsuit waiting to happen, as its selling an item not as advertised. False advertisement

Yeah, I know. This is how you add an external transmission cooler. But the truck states on the window sticker it was built with an external transmission cooler. And it's not there. This is something that was removed from the truck in 2019 and 2020 and should have never been removed as now the transmission fluid is at dangerous fluid temperature levels. The only way this is going to be addressed is if Toyota releases recall or service bulletin to install the actual transmission cooler from the 2018. This is not something we should have to buy after-market as it should have been factory installed especially when it says it on the window sticker

Clearly that temperature is way too high. Especially as an empty truck with no stress being added on the truck with Towing. Make sure you call Toyota

Even if the temps are not dangerous, it seems like false advertising

Exactly, sounds like a lawsuit right there. I don't want a lawsuit opened. I just want the truck fix the way that it should be. With an external transmission cooler. Because it's definitely needed

How did Toyota contact you through TIS?

I have looked and never found any info on WS fluid specifications.

Correct! That is why I wrote that very same concern in the original post. Reread it, and then call Toyota

They did not contact me through TIS. I called customer care which is what I stated in my original post. Read my original post. Both questions will be answered

Quoting your words "As of today, Toyota admitted to me through TIS that WS transmission fluid that is above 221 degrees operating range is out of spec".

Customer service would not have a clue what the specs are on WS.

Go look up the transmission temperature performance circuit code p0711. This is the information that they gave me. And as I stated well above I am waiting for the specifications from Exxon Mobil on the thermal degradation temperature of WS transmission fluid. That's the last piece of the puzzle that I need for all of my proof

Doesn’t toyata specs list ideal Operating specs for motor and transmissions?

Looked up P0711. Nothing about WS specs. Here's the first part of the explanation of what sets p0711.

Keep scrolling down. The " brand advocate " told me that anything above 221 degrees Fahrenheit is out of range. Thats all i needed to prove my case. They told me this, and wrote it in my Toyota case number

You can express and demonstrate agita, but as far as Toyota is concerned, you do not have a legitimate complaint until your transmission has failed. My bet is you will not have a transmission failure while your truck is under warranty. Afterwards...it could happen at any time. If you're towing regularly, you should preemptively retrofit an external cooler for reliability and longevity if you're smart. If you're only using your Tundra for daily transportation, you'll probably be fine without the cooler.

I bought the extended warranty. I won't ever hit it on mileage. But I will hit it by time because my truck has less than 5000 miles on it and I found it for a year-and-a-half. I have a company truck I spend more time in
