    Hey Tundra enthusiasts!

Currently the owner of a 2016 CrewMax SR5, with about 60k miles. I have poured a good amount in to it over the years: Upgraded sound system, katskin leather, new wheels/tires, bed cover, TRD pro grille, and various other semi-cheap mods.

The truck is awesome, but there is on catch: It's a 2WD. :(

I live in Texas, and spend quite a bit of time down at the beach. Everytime I go down there, I am reminded about my 2WD. It's definitely an ego thing, because I have never had much of an issue down there, but I just feel weak down there haha.

So my question is - should I sell my current truck and get a new one with 4WD? If so, what should I do about the new wheels and sound system and everything? I have no idea what the best thing to do in that situation is, but it's killing me making payments on a truck that I have no intentions of keeping long term. I was a young buck on a budget at the time of buying the 2WD, and wishing I had never done that!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Tanner

Having gotten myself stuck already with a 2wd truck in places that you just dont get stuck (hill + wet pavement)... I will NEVER own another 2wd vehicle again.
We live near Atlanta and 2wd is the norm here, just like TX... but both me and my wife drive 4x4's. Her's is a 2016 4runner, also bought new.

In my opinion... move on to what you REALLY want. We only have this one life to live... so make it count.

Scavenge whatever you can off your current truck and move it over to the new one. A dealer will never give you its real or perceived value in trade... so you may as well cut your losses as best as possible and trade in as much of a stock truck as possible.

Shopping new and preowned may surprise you bit. Covid has new inventories low selection wise and preowned at a premium. You may want to wait until later in year to shop.

It should work both ways though. OP's truck may be worth a bit more right now. Sell it and hold out for a 4th gen 4wd

Hopefully you still have your stock parts to swap back to. Like Dragracer-Art say, dealerships do not value aftermarket parts.

If your anything like me, once you get a certain feeling about something it eats away at you untill you do it or change it. If only having 2WD is giving you an infiriority complex. I don't see that changing with a rear locker or more aids. Even if you don't need it 98 percent of the time. That 1 time you do need it, it sure will be handy. The old adage " I'd rather have it an not need it then need it an not have it". If its bothering you enough to ask for opinion s on here, I'd say your well on your way to making up your mind already. Get what really want. don't look back..

Keep that 2wd until the redesign comes out. You don’t want to be saying “damn, I like my 4WD and all but that new design is just bad ass! Hey, Tundra crew what should I do!”

When you say new, is that "new to you" or brand new from a dealer?

Makes a difference. If you are buy used, then you will have to buy the truck first and swap the parts over. If new from a dealer, then you may want to sell it yourself, unless you get a decent trade in $$$.

Personally, I would never even consider buying a SUV or truck that was not 4wd, so I would sell it. If you buy from a dealer I am sure you can work out to swap some of the items over to the new truck.

The timing is not great however, not a ton a new or nice used trucks out there right now. I would look around and if you find a nice deal jump on it.
