Got a cold call from Toyota two days ago that there is a massive shortage of new and used trucks in the area...of course these are typically gimmicks however when looking at the Toyota provided KBB I was able to see my truck was worth almost as much as what I paid for it new.

Long story short, 2019 Platinum 10k miles, WITH a dented tailgate, $46k check cut to buy my truck back from the local Toyota dealer...

If anyone wants to sell and get some cash, now is the time to do it.

I have a summer car so I don’t mind waiting a few months to get another winter vehicle (thinking a used tundra or Lexus GX460). Then I’ll keep that for a few years until the new tundra comes out.

Noice...if you can get a good deal, then go for it. Not sure I could part with my truck even for a good price.

A good deal is a good deal. I babied my truck during break-in, undercoated it with Amsoil HDMP when it was brand new, and it runs and drives like a dream. My luck, I'd trade it in and get a lemon, so no thank you Mr. dealership person, move on. ;)

I picked up a used GX470 a few months ago to use as a beater (it has 156k miles on it) and now I'm not even driving my Tundra anymore. It's a 2014 with 21k on it, just sits in the garage. Was a 2nd vehicle all its life.

I'm thinking about seeing what the dealer would give me for my Tundra, toss it in the bank, and use it towards a new Tundra down the road.

@RPKEAN I couldn't find a clean GX460 in my price range or I would have went with a 460. Can't go wrong with a GX.

I told my wife, I’m most certainly going to be in a new tundra when they come out.

I can’t help but think that maybe I could have even pushed the Toyota dealer even harder than the offer they gave me...but even factoring tax it turns out to be 225/month of expense on my end. Certainly didn’t make money like some did on here.

I’m going to use this hopefully to my advantage and just drive the challenger/Miata through October and find something used then. Or get the wife a new car.

We went car shopping last night and found a few noticeable replacements:

gX460, however the one I found is way more than I want to spend

2018 CPO GX460 Luxury 48k miles, $46k...off lease but lots of paint damage...

    then there’s a 2015 Ram Rebel 67k miles $28k.

or other option is I get my wife a new highlander and I just drive hers for 2-3 years.

OR I get a 2011-2014 Tundra used and drive that for a few years (which I like that too).

There’s another thread on this about Carvana offers going through the roof. I checked mine (2019 SR DC with 13k miles) and they are offering me $3,000 more than I paid 18 months ago...paid $31,500, offered $34,636.

That’s a deal to definitely jump on.

however I’m skeptical this can go on forever and I think once people start going back to work Aug/Sept and automotive starts shipping new vehicles, things would get back to normal.

i wouldn’t have sold my truck had I not have the option to drive other vehicles for a few months as essentially and direct trade to another vehicle is just putting the money forward.

I was just a bit in shock there was no hassle no and nit picking my truck to get the check amount down. Note that the warped tailgate was hard to see but I certainly wasn’t going to volunteer to then that they would have to change the tailgate...

I also notice the days of a $300/mo truck lease are gone. All the Ram Big Horns and Ford XLTs I was looking at were 450/mo. I have an internal issue paying 15-20k towards a vehicle I do not own or have equity in....so either I’m getting a used older car or my wife is getting a new one. She is afraid I’m to “hard” of a driver and will kill her highlander.

Side note- I’m assuming a sequoia driving experience is exactly like my truck, this was one of the contenders...although I personally think it’s too big for her.

I’m really tempted. I love my truck and got it to where I liked it with mods, etc. but I have a chance to upgrade a few things like getting the 38 gal. fuel tank, and adjustable seats.

If your truck is more than about 3 to 4 years old, they will lowball your trade offer. Carvana marks high to lure you in as well. I would love to have a new truck but they aren't getting mine. 40K plus to upgrade to a 5.7 at a minimum of $580 a month. Im better off saving money for a bigger down payment next year to get a lower payment.

Yes, I know it’s a crapshoot to get a Ram... when I drove it hard it was extremely solid, everything works, no rust. And was very cheap so to speak. I only want something to bridge me 3 years.

I like my truck but if my dealer would offer me near what I paid for it I would be there in a flash.

Problem is they have nothing but a few camrys, avalons, rav4s and corollas on the lot. Only a couple new tundras equal to what I have now and no used ones, no 4 runners or sequoias. So nothing I would want. They though they had a pro coming in but theres no eta for it it will show up when it gets there.

Might as well keep what I have.

Its amazing seeing an equal 2020 or newer Tundra msrp to what my 19’ CM sr5 is. I think my 19’ sticker was $41-42K, now they are $46k sticker for a sr5?

Yep...prices are high. A 2wd SR5 here in FL would be low to mid 40s out the door.

My local dealer had zero Tundras on their lot but there was a super slow white cable guy pro in the showroom......so I didn't count that naturally..heh...heh...

I realized my Ludicrous Speed Blaaaaaack Tundra was too fast so I took the Chevy dealer's offer and decided to jump the shark and got a Trail Boss!

I dreamt that I traded my Tundra in on a GMC AT4. I had to look outside this morning and make sure I hadn’t actually done it.

Sorry to make fun of super white pro! Not much else to make fun of other than colors. Quite frankly if I were to order a new Tunny it would be white..

I took no offense. I understand that white trucks are not for everybody. I don’t care for either shade of Toyota blue or black. Different strokes.✌️
