17 trdpro shocks

Hey guys I have a 2017 trdpro CM.. the miles are at 72k.. I’m looking into replacing the shocks.. it still has its OEM shocks that look like the first pic..
I have no lift. Everything is still stock lol. But what good quality shocks could I replacement with. I know the Fox shocks are awesome ( read good reviews about them but there at minimum 2k:/) I see the blue and yellow shocks for sale a lot. Will they work and fit my truck?? At 72k Is it time to replace my original TRD shocks? Any suggestions would be awesome

 

You have the TRD Pro shocks, the blue and yellow are the standard trd shocks, they are terrible in comparison. The TRD Pro has a factory 2" front lift. Is there any issues with your shocks currently? I would imagine they are fine.

 

I had a friend tell me that stander TRD shocks can’t compare to the TRDpro shocks. I mean........... my cousin is a mechanic and he said my shocks are okay but my back shocks could use a replacement. In my mind.. if I replace the back ones.. might as well replace the front one..

 

If you want to replace your shocks front and rear and don’t want to drop the coin on the Fox shocks, look into the Bilstein 6112 up front and 5160 out back. They are better than the non pro TRD shocks. Eventually I’m going to put those on. Not sure how they compare to your current shocks (non fox pro shocks). They are popular around these parts (this forum).

 

im glad that you mention that.. I’m not mechanic unless it comes to oil changes and air filters lol.. basic stuff.. but what does those numbers mean? 6112 up front? And 5160 out back?

 

now that you mention it. It does. I had a TSS before the pro and my TSS would lean forward. Then I got this pro and it was level. If I’m not mistaken lol

 

The other OEM shocks (red/blue or yellow/blue) would be a downgrade compared to your TRD pro suspension. I would stick with what you have.

 

Those numbers are just the series/model of shocks.

 

I’m not gonna lie. I was gonna whip out the credit card and look into those fox shocks that come with the 2020 pro.. but if im not mistaken. The fit meant only works for 19 and up year model

6112 front set up, 5160 for the rear.

 

If you don't mind me asking, what leads you to think the shocks are shot already? Mine I can guarantee are at 140k with the stock TRD yellow and blue. I'm looking to put either the 5100's or the Eibach shocks on it but been looking for a pair of TRD Pro shocks to use instead possibly. I've heard they are awesome. If your's aren't shot and your're going to swap them out....what would you take for them?

They will fit any 2nd Gen Tundra.

I honestly have no idea. I know new they are crazy expensive and idk if I can stomach the same price as brand new Eibach or Bilstein 5100’s for non-rebuildable shocks with that many miles on them unless the price is right. I don’t want to rip you off, and I honestly have no clue what a fair price would be. Anyone?

 

I paid 850 for mine used front and rear. They had about 30k miles on them and were the Bilstein version.

 

How many miles do you have on them now? Still holding up ok? @AZTundra , what have most of the miles on them been? Highway and street or dirt? Any towing?

 

The person I bought them from had similar mileage as me at the time (about 30k). I'm just over 60k on my truck now. The shocks have held up great and are very smooth compared to the yellow bilsteins my truck came with. No issues whatsoever and I liked the 2" lift they provided up front. I've since added the coachbuilder shims (2 per side) to gain an additional 1" of lift. My shocks have seen mostly street and highway with some towing here and there. No real off road use. I love the shocks, but wouldn't pay the new cost for them. At that price point there are probably better options out there. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I have skid plate, 2 sets of headlights, steering Wheel and bed cover that I want to sell but was afraid of getting kick out for not meeting the 50 post lol.. but ima look for some shocks tonight and then I’ll have a decision. I’ll DM if I do replace them

 

Not trying to butt in here, but can't Fox rebuild the factory shocks? We're taking seals and oil, not rocket science. Seems like that way be the best direction forward in my mind. (for the reservoir style fronts anyway).

google search: Per Fox the new TRD Pro suspension is rebuildable by them. Cost will be similar to 1st gen Raptor rebuild price.Jun 7, 2019

Not sure if you're working with newer style or older style fox TRD Pro stuff. Definitely worth calling Fox in my mind.

Looks like the 2019 TRD pro stuff. Not sure if they can or will help with earlier stuff.
