To close this out, court date was yesterday. I did not go since I was represented. They reduced the reckless driving charge - doing 87 in a 70 - to doing 79 in a 70. Amazing that three months later I magically slowed down or it took them three months to realize I wasn't really doing 87. LOL. Love how this stuff works.

    Here's the damage:
    • Attorney fee - 400.00 (this may vary depending on the attorney)
    • Safe Driver course - 90.00
    • Fine - 250.00
    • Court fees - 66.00
    • 4% surcharge for using a debit card to pay fine and court fees - 28.64
TOTAL COST = $834.64 :goingcrazy: That's highway robbery folks! Literally! :annoyed:

If you did 87 in a 70 in GA, including a Super Speeder fine, it'd be a few hundred cheaper. I think I'll be driving around VA for a while. Fortunately. TN and VA don't reciprocate so no points.

99% of the time, Traffic Court is just about little more than money collection for the city/county.

    Beat me to it!

It’s like the old joke where the guy goes to see the doctor and says “Doc, my arm hurts when I move it!”.

And the Doctor replies: “Well, don’t move your arm then.”

    :crapstorm::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'm always going to end of going faster than posted. I'm not really trying to speed, it just seems that based on the conditions, traffic (or lack there of) and the vehicle driven, that's where I'm at. Sounds like an excuse, but the speed limits were set when they had horse and buggies. Cars are much more capable and safer than they were back in the 70s when the speeds were determined. lol

    Still rolling stock baby....

Consider yourself lucky, around these parts they make you the subject of a John Grissom novel.

Still bullshit on the costs tho, ya its a racket.

$834.64 is a lot of money - it’s enough that would make me think a lot about whether I want to drive faster or not.

What a load of crap. I'm sorry this happened to you. Really shows how money drives beaurocratic nonsense, and then the gov goes and wastes your hard earned money. Straight up robbery. But hey, guess they're protecting and serving the "community" (politicians).

General comment, not aimed at OP; Just the fact that you can hire a lawyer to change your ticket from reckless to whatever minor charge, or you are 15 over and they get you to get away with an inaccurate speedometer excuse totally saddens me about our judicial system.

I always speed and have been lucky to be ticket free; using an excuse to get out of a ticket will be tempting if I am ever in that situation, but it is still morally just wrong that the system is corrupt like that.

It's cheaper and more beneficial to the municipalities for you to plead guilty to a lesser charge than to summon the officer to court to testify and not write a day's worth of tickets.
