Help me out 2005 tundra fog light not working

Hello I'm new my names Chris. So I have a ? I bought some jdmastar T2 led bulbs for my head lights and lasfit switchback white and yellow fog light bulbs switchback. Each light has resistors built in them. But when I installed my headlights the fog lights wouldn't work only the headlights would work. And the fog light switch would turn on the high and low beams. Also when I installed the factory headlights back on the led fog lights and fog switch will work. But then I put back on the led headlights and the fogs stop working and the fog switch then operates the hi and low beams. Heard this is common for 2005-2006 tundra truck year do you have any ideas how I can fix that?

Classic response....I rest my case. 99.99999% of electrical issues reported here on this forum is because the battery wasn't disconnected first. Electrical wiring 101. Just sayin and welcome from Colorado.
Disconnecting the battery "de-energizes" the electrical system in your Tunny. Just because the ignition is off and no key doesn't mean it's ok to work on anything electrical. The most common excuse to not disconnect the battery by far is......... "I'll have to reprogram my radio presets"........

Lots of info out there on LED headlights causing fogs to stop working due to non-factory load.

Basic backwards troubleshooting: Get the cheapest halogens you can find at the store and pop them in. If it fixes the issue, you know it's the bulbs.

Ok disconnected the battery and still didnt work

 

To shifty well all bulbs work. Its just i think I might need a bigger resistor. When I out the factory lights back on the LASFIT Switchback fog lights work. But when I put the JDMASTAR led headlights on the fog lights wouldn't work and also the fog light switch now operates the high and low beams

 

You need in line load resistors on your headlights.

When in the truck, and click the high beams on. Does the blue high beam light on dash come on? If not, then you need resistors.

2005 trucks still use the H4 bulb?

They still are H4 bulbs. And each light has its own resistor. But maybe need a bigger one. When I put the high beams on the blue light indicator is not on the dash board

I tried plug, and play in line resistors from super bright leds.com.

Install day came around, and everything was going peachy until I tried to plug in the actual light plug to the resistor. The female plug on the resistors were junk. I cut those off, and soldered on ceramic females. Been running those for years now.

Decent reviews on the product also. I mounted the actual resistor box to the wall of the engine bay some where around the lights. I used jb weld steelstik because I didn't want to drill holes if I could help it. If I need to pop them off I can do that easily with a flat blade screwdriver, and a hammer..


From your avatar it looks like you have a double cab? If so, I don't know anything about the day running lights in the inside corner of your headlights.

I'm not familiar with either of those. Not saying its a bad thing. I just haven't looked for headlight/foglights in a few years.

My fogs do not have resistors in line. Work just fine. Give me a minute, and I'll go out and take a reading from my resistors so you know how much resistance you need.

Are you familiar with multi-meters?

 

Looks like Amazon purchase. I'd be sending it back. @Professional Hand Model swears by the Katanas on Amazon. I don't think he needed anything special to make it work, but I may be wrong.

Unfortunate thing about amazon is like 60% of sellers are unregulated or poorly regulated shops in Asia, so you never truly know what you're getting. Sometimes you'll hit on one that's putting out quality product but in my experience, it's a 1-in-4 crapshoot.

I don't even want to get started on my experience buying a grease gun back in 2018. Like, seriously, in the US we'd been making quality grease guns that never failed, still working after decades. You won't find a hand-pump physically made and assembled in the USA on there for under $100, and everything else lasts for under 100hrs.

Such is the world we've allowed ourselves to be bullied into though...

This guy on this video says that this resistor will fix all things. Wondering if anyone has tried it

 

I guarantee you that he changed his light exposure on his camera when he recorded the halogen bulbs.

Halogens are dim, but not that dim.

The resistors he showed in the video are the same exact ones, from the same exact vendor I have, and told you about earlier.

 

I suspect I am looking at a different set of headlights in that picture...

I mounted mine with JB weld steel stick to avoid drilling holes.

Yes. Sure did.

Like I said in post #17 the female side of the resistors were poorly made. I cut those off, and soldered on ceramic connectors. Here are some pictures for you.

Drivers side resistor box by the battery.

You've mentioned a few times that your lights have built in resistors in them. The JDM Astar and Lasfit lights you showed pictures of do not have built in resistors. If you mean the rectangular boxes that are part of the wiring of those lights, those are LED drivers, not resistors. The load resistor kit you purchased above will fix your headlight problem but your LED fog lights may also need resistors added for them to work properly.

Edited to mention that adding the second headlight resistor took care of my LED foglights not working.
