    Greetings,

My wife gives me the blessing to sell my oldie but goodie Lexus GX460 to get a new 2020 Tundra. I test drove the standard 1794 (though i can not afford it) just to see how it goes but the ride leaves a lot to be desired as I am used to the smooth ride of the GX460. Which model would yield best "on road" ride (I don't do any off road.) I see that TRD Pro has the TRD FOX shock which I heard has best ride but also kind of expensive. Can I get a lower cost trim line SR5/Limited and add some package options with better shocks so I can achieve that nice ride. It would be really great if I can have a truck that can ride nice and rooms to haul camping/fishing gear for family trips. Your advise is greatly appreciated. Oh, forgot to mention, only Toyota dealer factory installed stuff please as I am clueless and don't want to buy aftermarket items and custom install, etc... By the way, I don't want to spend hours at the dealer dealing with saleman asking them to allow me to test all models/trim line, etc... hence the asking

I agree, I drove most of the models but the TRD Sport had the best road manners and the ride was smoother than my Grand Cherokee.

I would say either the SR5 TRD sport or the platinum for everyday use. Before I bought my platinum, I test drove a barely used pro with aftermarket wheels, a TRD sport, and the platinum. There wasn't one that I felt that I could not live with for everyday use. I ultimately settled on the platinum for a variety of reasons including interior features, price, etc. The dealer was offering a very aggressive deal on the platinum (7K off sticker) vs the pro so I went with that.

Get the truck with the least amount of options you can live with and put the TRD Pro suspension on it. Cheapest way for the best ride

I did more searching and found that only TRD pro model has fox shocks/suspension. No other upgrade would have FOX shocks. The 1794 model has bilstein shocks as standard. Sr5 with off road package will have bilstein shocks. Please advise

So the bilstein shocks from off-road package would just be as good as Fox shocks from TRD pro model?

Love my TRD Sport. Holds corners well. Wifey thinks it’s a smooth ride.

So don't bother with anything else, just pick TRD pro and call it happy?

If you can afford it the Pro is a nice truck that will ride amazing. If you want to save some cash. Buy an SR5 and then buy the Pro suspension separately. With install at a dealer it would probably run you $3-4K.

Or buy an SR5 and put aftermarket suspension on it. Personally, I went with ADS suspension and UCA from MCM fab.

The $3-4k is for parts and labor altogether? If so, i may go this route. Thank you so much for your insight

Yes, figure $2,500-$3,000 for the suspension and around $1,000 for the install

For a nicer ride, over any terrain, make sure you don't get a trim with 20 inch wheels. Go with 18" and that extra sidewall will help smooth things out. As was posted before, you can get a lower trim than the Pro and upgrade the suspension and come out ahead. You don't even have to go with the Pro suspension on it. There are lots of options.

Anything special about TRD sport shocks other than red paint?

The pro is great on road and off. I’m constantly amazed how well it rides over a variety of terrain

Sport and Offread use same shock (Bilstein). But Sports have red TRD swing bars (front & rear). Pro use Fox w/out the TRD swing bars because the TRD swing bars with limit the Fox shock travel. However, someone put the Front TRD swing bar that include the handling.

They both use bilsteins, but Toyota says they are tuned differently.

AzureNightmare, so if I get the SR5 with TRD off road package (bilsteins tuned for off road), the ride will be quite comparable to TRD pro with Fox suspensions as they both have 18" wheels like you recommended.

No, not at all comparable. You will need to either buy a Pro or buy the Pro suspension separately.

I found the 1794 with bilstein shocks(TRD off road package) rode harsher on road than the normal 1794 with 20” wheels and the black shocks.

I can’t imagine spending $4000 to make my truck ride better solely for use on the road, unless you’re talking washed out pot holed roads in terrible shape.

I liked the ride in the TRD sport, but wanted the interior of the 1794.

If you don't off road, do not get the Pro. Sport will be best for you, based on your original post.

Pro sports has 20" tires. Off road uses 18". I thought general consensus is 18" will provide smoother ride. I am more confused.
