Better Braking Brakes! Easy!!!

I recently commented about how my braking off road is subpar. Someone mentioned to adjust the rear brakes, which involves jacking up the rear and fiddling around the drum brakes...
Would making the adjustment in this thread make that job unnecessary or redundant?

 

Since this threads genesis, I’ve re-built my entire braking system. I lowered the nuts to experiment with the new brakes, but ended up raising them back up to previous raised location with better performance.

 

You can try raising the nuts a bit. Doesn’t require any jacking up. Another thing to do is make sure your parking brake is adjusted properly which is key in the self adjusting mechanism of the ‘Star Adjuster’. You can self adjust the ‘Star Adjuster’ through the little window on the drum backside.

 

New Brakes went from WE13 to New WL13 Calipers with new pads. Rear drums were rebuilt using Toyota parts in the cylinders with new Toyota Shoes. Kept the original OEM Drums.

 

Will the mounting bolts from the WE13 work on the 13WL calipers?

 

Hey do y'all only have one clip on your front brakes? Cuz I have a clip on both of the slide pins. Zies one.

 

I'm running double springs. Just because...my ps pads came with new hardware & i had em.

 

i'm pretty sure they use the same bracket, and you have to trim the dust shield a bit.

 

I believe so. I don't recall having to buy new bolts.

 

I gotta hit a pick/pull for my Daughter's accord - if I found some 13WL dust covers, does anyone know if they are a direct fit on the older Tundras?

 

Answering my own question from advice on here: They are, but you have to install behind the hub and press it out to get to it

 

Can anyone tell me, has mine already been adjusted? Do I want more thread sticking out the top?

 

That all depends. The higher the bracket on the bolt, the more rear grab. The lower the bracket, the less rear grab. Only you can tell if you need more or less. Shifty' has a good picture illustration somewhere.

@Nedloyd 's is roundabout where mine is, ~3 threads exposed out of the nut.
