End-of-days Tundra

Calling all aluminum foil hat wearers...
One of multiple reasons I decided on the Tundra was it's reliability and capability. My truck will seem some wheeling and overlanding very soon, and I'm building it up with that in mind. But, without getting too involved, I'm also hoping to prep my truck for potential disasters and shtf stuff.
Any of you guys have some good outside the box ideas/mods/upgrades that one wouldn't immediately think of for apocalyptic nightmarish situations? Admittedly, I'm about 50% serious and 50% having fun. So....fire away.

 

Wrap it in a Faraday cage so when an EMP/high altitude nuke goes off the electronics won't be fried and you can still drive it

 

I was so excited about that 'emp shield' product that came out a year ago or so, but I'm pretty sure it's bunk. An electrical engineer buddy of mine was able to dispell any possible 'protection' it might offer. But people keep buying those things like hotcakes

 

Remove the radio, wrap it up with aluminum foil and the reinstall it. This way they can't send you signals or monitor you.

I think a carbed old truck is better against an EMP anyways

 

A mechanical injection pump diesel with manual Xmission is EMP impervious.

 

I keep an old VW parked the garage for when the EMP nukes go off... Points and condenser + carburetor for the win...

 

Get yourself a horse hauler. A horse will survive the EMP.

 

I am just grateful that the Zombies that I believe in have no good way to actually deploy an EMF device and that I have little worry now about that.

But yeah we are largely screwed in this world today should some be used.

 

I haven't picked this up yet due to my cattle dogs predictable resting spot while on drives however I'm interested. Could go with a roof unit as well. Mag storage included. I DON'T know if it's Optic friendly. We never used monster trucks in the middle east so my emphasis is on heavy duty alternators, weapons storage, a winch, COMS, and NV friendly interior lighting. Just my 2 cents.

 

Definitely been thinking a lot about a Ham radio and a winch.

 

I have already decided if it gets to that point where I need a weapon to protect my home and myself on a daily basis, and the only way to obtain food is to steal it or hunt it, and the world is in shambles, I am just going to eat a bullet! No prep needed...

That's sad and I'm sorry. Go visit the third world for perspective. It's powerful, and will change your mindset on fighting for yourself. Much of the world lives exactly as you described.

 

So you would really want to live here if we got nuked and you were one of the few humans left (would only be a matter of time before you died from cancer or disease anyway) Or if we went to serious war on our turf? Or some other massive disaster happened?

I am not talking like we got hit by Mother Nature in a serious way like a major hurricane, tornado, earthquake etc, I am talking the end of society as we know it, planet wiped of most humans etc, or we get nuked or some other massive warfare in the US...

LOL, nope I don't need a hug. I am just in touch with reality, and having worked in the healthcare field for 23 years I am very accepting of the fact that sometimes death can be better than living, and death is a part of life, a part that few people talk about or accept.

You say you’re in touch with reality as if everyone else isn’t. You are just choosing the easy way out, which is fine if that’s what you choose, but others might want to fight to live as long as they can...

 

Not exactly end of days, but I keep a fair amount of survival stuff in my truck. On top of spending alot of time alone in the remote northern Canadian wilderness, our extreme winter weathers and long distances between towns require you to be prepared.

Off the top of my head I have:

- paracord
- Sawyer Mini water filter
- 2 or 3 mountain house meals
- esbit stove
- small pot for boiling water/melting snow
- fire starting kit
- Gerber LMF 2 fixed blade knife
- hand crank flashlight
- leather gloves
- bug spray
- sunscreen
- 4 or 5 bottles of water
- ratchet straps
- ultralight spinning rod
- box of lures
- hatchet
- breaker bar
- lug nut socket and extension
- blutooth OBDII reader
- charging cables
- pens, pencils, sharpie, notepad
- trauma kit
- Backroads Mapbooks for my region
- hunting regs, fishing regs
- box of 12ga shells; birdshot, buckshot, slugs, flares
- box of .22LR
- spare hoodie

There's probably some other stuff in there I don't remember. I only put a gun in the truck when I'm heading into the backcountry since I don't want to store it there.

Oh, I know, I never said other people shouldn't do what it is that they wish. I am just saying from working in a healthcare prospective most of the population, at least in the US, doesn't accept that death is the inevitable and they try and put it off as long as possible only to increase ones suffering, and it's mostly to delay the emotions that come with it. Most people choose quantity over quality merely because they cannot accept the emotions that come with meeting their own demise, or that of a loved one, and when you chose that root someone suffers, and that would be the person that is dying. Just my own observation.

I would not taking the easy way out, killing oneself definitely isn't the "easy way out", as it would take A LOT of emotional strength and courage, even more than it would take to continue to try and live while the world is possibly coming to an end. Once again I wouldn't do this unless the world truly became one big shit show with little hope of returning to some sort of reasonable level of normalcy. Anyway.... This is just how I would handle this if god forbid it does happen, it doesn't mean I would expect everyone else to handle it the same. Just like if a person gets diagnosed with cancer that is terminal, some may choose to try and prolong their life, even if that increase in time means it will be spend those days feeling sick from the treatment itself, and others such as myself would choose no treatment if a terminal diagnosis was made, because I value quality more than I would value extra days, if less days means I spend them feeling well overall. Death and dying, and your threshold for when you decide that living is worse than death is very different for each situation and each individual.

Wrong truck...get an old diesel...less is more in this potenial event...Tundra get poor fuel mileage and too many electronics to protect and there's more diesel around than gasoline...

6 volts, 36hp, screw-terminal wiring, rebuildable split case transaxle.... untold odometer rollovers, 60 years young and still pretty much bombproof.
