How to remove Leveling Kit? Bought this truck and want it to go back to stock.

Hello! First time on this forum. My name is Jason. I live in the Nashville, TN area and purchased a 14 Tundra on Monday. I love the way it looks but I don't think I'm a lift/mud tire guy which leads me to my questions. If I want to remove the leveling kit 2.5 / 1.5, and go to stock sized tires, do I need to do anything other than remove the spacers under the leaf springs, remove the spacers above the front shock/struts, and get the truck aligned?

Anybody want to trade some like new TOYO Open Country M/T's 35x12.5x20 and my leveling kit for a set of new OE take-offs?

I can only see what you’ve posted, but yes, it looks like you just need to remove those spacers, front and back. And replace the shackles in back.

Someone gave away brand new OEM shocks on here a couple of weeks ago, and others sell ‘em for very low prices, because most people swap em out— I feel certain you’ll find a taker to swap soon.

FWIW my 3rd gen has stock TRD suspension and OEM tires and I’m very happy with it. That said, your “stance” will be a bit different, and the look you love may be altered. But it will ride a lot better without those spacers.

EDIT: I wrote shackles but I was thinking U-bolts and, since OP didn’t mention U-bolts while asking about going back to stock, I wanted to give a heads up not to reuse any.

Depends on how he wants to use it. If he wants to do off-road driving, it’s always a good idea not to have spacers.

 

I took my spacers out too....for these.

 

Good decision! Keep that truck awhile. (That’d be another good decision.)

 

Just remove the blocks and spacers.
You probably have OEM black shocks and struts already, no need to replace them.
But you will need to replace the tires, probably have some rubbing when you remove the spacer and blocks.

 

Why would he do that, he already probably has stock shackles?
Someone just added the cheap block.
He might need stock U-bolts to ditch those blocks.

 

Not sure why you would want to go through the trouble. Your '14 looks damned nice with the leveling kit and tires! But hey, different strokes, right?

 

Yes, stock U bolts would be good. My understanding is, this is something that needs to be replaced though, not reused.

 

Maybe I’m mis-remembering. I think I learned this from something @831Tun shared. Warren, can you please correct my error, if I’ve made one.

 

You got it right Sunny, U-bolts should not be reused.
OP, the shocks look like stock shocks in the photos so you probably don't have to replace 'em. Spacers and stock shocks is not ideal. Can't see the shackles but they're probably stock too. So, just remove the spacers, throw 'em in the trash, I mean recycling, replace the U-bolts and get an alignment.

 

Find some TRD OR take offs and replace with those while you’re at it. Can probably find some for $100.

 

The blocks use the stock shackles, why would he replace them?

 

Haven't seen mentioned but the front end will need an alignment as well if the front spacers are removed.

I think it looks great. If not off-roading much I would leave as is.

 

Also need to check and see if it has front diff spacer installed and remove that too. Definitely and alignment after like Trooper2 stated

 

I wish I better understood why, but I’ve made a mental note never to reuse U-bolts. My understanding (a guess based on examination + forum reading) is that the nuts/bolts, once backed off for removal, won’t be as secure after subsequent installations. Since it’s obviously a critical attachment, and fairly inexpensive, seems like a no-brainer to replace them rather than re-install.

 

It's 'cause the U-bolts stretch when installed and tightened. After install and torquing to spec they need to be re-torqued after a few hundred miles. When removing I've found galling often occurs and that compromises the integrity of the threads.

 

The threads are actually stretched during torque of the nuts.

What size tires are you running? It would suck if you had some rubbing after you took off the leveling kit

Are those really 35x12.5x20 tires?

How did they fit those on stock platinum wheels?
That would be a bad fit, would be unsafe, and illegal, the wheel is way to narrow for that tire, and would rub for sure. Bmc probably had to be done and Fender issues most likely.

If that's really the size on the tires, you need to either get those off asap or make the place that sold you the truck replace them with proper size tires.

I have stock 275x55x20 AT tires on my 1794 with 3in front and 1.75in rear lift. They look smallish, but not God awful imo. I will be getting bigger ones eventually, your size with proper new wheels that are wider with different offset.

You can also easily fit 275x60x20 tires on stock lift.

You may also have wheels spacers behind those wheels as the stock offset with that tire size would rub alot.

It's a sharp looking truck. It would be tough to go back unless I was upgrading...

 

BTW, those tires are super sweet and like $450+ each new.....

If I was closer, I'd trade you faster than a new York minute lol.

 

I'm not asking you about the u-bolts, that's a no brainer.
He has to take them off and they would be too long without the blocks anyway.

You stated to replace the shackles, I'm still waiting for a response as to WHY?
