So I bought the vehicle a few months ago and she was bone stock. Tried to find a base model so I didn’t have to change out the airbags for coils, but was damn near impossible. So I ended up with a premium model. I’ve started to modify it and will be making it exactly like my tundra with the same mods. I have installed my Kings shocks all the way around with a toytec coil conversion for the rear, swapped upper control arms to SPCs. Changed out the stock grill for the sport one and tinted the front windows so far. Mods that will be installed by end of August are going to be my 4.88 nitro gears with both front and rear arb lockers so I’ll be triple locked With arb compressor, MetalTech front bumper OPOR sliders, my Advan wheels with 35x12.5r17 bfg KM3s. I have all those parts now. What I still need is a roof rack which I’m deciding on as well as a winch and light bar for the bumper. Other than that she will be all done and ready to go. Also added a pedal commander already.

Now that the intro is done. Need some advice. I installed carrier bearing spacers on my tundra after the 3” lift. Since I’m dis a 3” lift on the GX should I do the same spacers?

Thanks. Waiting for the wheels to come in was killing me since they’re from japan. Now bfg KM3s are on a nation wide back order till the end of August. It looks weird now with 30” tires with the lift.

4.88s will be a solid choice. I'm doing the same, only I will be going with an elocker in the rear and I'm still researching for an LSD for the front.
You'll be surprised how heavy these are once you get bumpers/winch and a swing out tire carrier.

Awesome. Thanks. Not like it’s expensive just don’t want any vibrations like you mentioned.

I would have gone with the e locker but I got a good deal on everything so I said screw it. I’m going to rip out the worthless third row seat and build a custom platform for a giant custom dog bed/our bed when camping. Not gonna do a rear bumper for now. I want to put the full sized spare on the roof rack since I won’t be doing a RTT.

I do have vibrations but, it is because my KO2s dont balance for poo. They were on already on it when I bought it and they only had about 1000 miles on them. Did 2 road forces and they are a little better.

So far it’s been a great vehicle. My buddy came out with us to mammoth area to do some wheeling in his stock 2011 GX and it did amazing on the trail. We even went down a difficult trail and it performed better than I thought it would have. They are reasonably priced compared to a 4Runner and it has a V8.

By getting rid of the 3rd row you're saving 180lbs. I'm going to do the same thing eventually. I want to do all of the running gear first.

I figured it was heavy and serves no purpose for me at least. I’m trying to not make it a heavy monster like my tundra. Did you get lucky and get a base model or premium? I hate the side door panel protectors on mine and can’t remove them without having holes left behind.

Nope mine is the Premium also. The guy I bought it from did the Metal Tech coil spring seats. He also did a space lift in the front. I do have the Check Air Suspension warning light.
I put in an OME front lift with SPC UCAs, OME shocks in the rear with ICON Overland 600lbs Progressive Springs.
The stips on the door dont bother me too much. My sliders dont stick out that far and it is a little extra protection from door dings.

Right on. There is a fuse to remove to get rid of the light. When I get home I will post up which fuse to remove. It came with the coil conversion instructions. My buddy with the 2011 is going with OME as well but going with 33s.

    Thanks

I love my Tundra!! That being said, Mongo The Trail Sloth is way more comfortable and fun to trail ride and offroad with.

I haven’t gone on any trails yet with it, but I agree that it’s more comfortable than the tundra. Can’t wait till my GX is fully done to go test it out on some more difficult narrow trails. I’ll then just use the tundra for desert runs and more open trails.

They are a hoot out on the trails and in the mountains.
Hit a button and the mirrors come in.
Shorter wheel base and tighter turn radius and easier to navigate the harder runs and obstacles.
I got mine because I wanted a dedicated trail vehicle. If it got scratched it wouldn't sting as much. It was cheaper than 4runners and Tacomas.
It already had bumpers, a winch and sliders. I can focus on the other things, gears, lockers and a few more conveniences.

Every time someone laments that 5th gen 4runners don’t come with a v8 option, I refer them to the GX.

So I removed the fuses the instructions said to and then the air suspension light came on. I put them back in and the light went off. I guess I’ll just leave the fuses in since I don’t want the light on. The compressor doesn’t run or anything like that so I don’t see why to remove them. If you have the two fuses already removed try putting them back in and see if the light goes off. They ask to remove two fuses and also a third if yours has one. Here are the instructions.E1BBD827-162C-46FD-A711-5A1CB1B01CCB.jpg792B5F97-EF52-4E2B-81FC-C9F9FC2AB464.jpg
