    Latest purchase.

I know the tank is painted and cleared over but the rest is painted plastic with a thick decal. Do I dare run my G9 over all the fairings? The bike should arrive this weekend and from the pictures the paint looks to be in descent shape. Some rash but I have some new OEM decals from the seller. Not bad for a 1996. I've been looking for a few years to find the right one.

The fairings will act the same as one stage paint. Problem is, you have no idea how thick the paint is. Lower belly fairings are typically thicker from factory because they cover the headers and hot exhaust. Tails are usually thinner. The G9 shouldnt hurt the decals given they're in good condition. Just test spot a fairing. Heat will thin paint over time so careful on the belly and side cowls.

Nice '96. I'm a CBR man myself. #227 out of #500 of their anniversary edition.

    Thanks for the tips!

I'll look it over and see how it looks when it gets here. The seller also threw in a brand new OEM tank. Hopefully just a day deep cleaning and wax. I need the carbs cleaned before I can ride it anyway. Won't idle without the choke on.

Nice looking bike! Is that a 2006? I have rode CBR's since 93 except I did stray in 2010 and bought a Ducati. I sold my 2007 CBR 1000 Repsol 4 years ago.

Should be fine. Just ride fast no one will see the paint blemishes lol. Careful with wax on the side fairings, tank, and tail (if someone rides with you) for obvious reasons. Poorboy's wheel protectant works great for all the brake dust you'll inevitably be throwing on the wheels. I typically use Optimum No Rinse in a bucket with microfiber towels for the wash and spray Beadmaker (any sealant will work) on the front cowl/windshield and light for future easy cleaning.

And yup 2006. I sold her several months ago to a collector due to the wife and kids unfortunately. But I'm already looking at new ones haha. This is the longest I've gone without owning a bike and it sucks.

Collectors are a pain in the ass. I lost a few auctions to them because they usually have deeper pockets. I don't get buying a bike to let it sit in a garage but that's just me. The seller hit me up after I lost a bike at auction to a guy that collects. He had a few bikes available. I was after a 96 but he also had a really nice 94 I was interested in.

Progress. Finally got to play with the new DA/ gift pack. Single stage black paint is fun!

That's why I sold to him haha. A $6k bike to someone who doesnt care and I got almost $9k from the collector due to it being a 227/500 bike with appropriate paperwork. Sucks to be a buyer vs them but you hold the cards as a seller.

True story. I told my wife this bike was more of an investment that I can ride. I plan on getting the bike perfect but also riding it as well.

Used it on the outboard as it currently has the best paint condition of the stuff I own. Hands down the best stuff I’ve ever used considering its price and how easy it was to use. Clay bar, IPA wipe and the Beadmaker:

Anyone have a clay pad they use on a DA that they like? Got another spray paint job and would rather use the DA than by hand again...

Hah totally random guy found my website and lives only 5 min away. This spray paint issue is leaps and bounds easier than the mini cooper a couple weeks ago...it's just on every surface on a 2012 Tacoma. I'd rather DA clay it than do that thing by hand. Just curious for folks that have experience if they work and are worth it. I found some from Autoscrub (the folks that make the Nanoskin clay mitts), they're just pricey ($40 a disc). The mitt is okay but often find myself using real clay. Afraid to spend $40 on a clay disc and it not do what I need it to and I wasted my money.

Get that although I’m no help with the disks. But I get the interest I would want to speed that up as well.

I have used the 6" nanoskin clay pad before and it made short work of doing a truck. I used a lot of lube, I used carpro immolube with it cuz that stuff is bad ass. Low speed, lube up,, and very little pressure and you'll be okay. I did not notice excess marring or issues. I assume you'll polish afterwards anyway so any marring will be cleaned up if it were to occur.

I got my autoscrub nanoskin cheaper than some mitts are. Forgot where but I think Amazon. I have also used it by hand and like it. I think they even make a handle for it for hand use but I didn't get that.

I got some trail stripes yesterday that I'll need to try to buff out. I've used Menzerna 2400 with orange LC CCS pads in the past that have not worked all that well with anything more than light scratches. Menzerna products are easy to use and I want to try M400 compound with maybe a yellow CCS pad, but the description for the yellow pad says to only use with oxidized and older finishes. Should I stick with orange pads for the M400 step, or is yellow ok and give me better results?

Also CCS red pads are real pain to clean. Would blue or black give me the same results with sealant but be easier to clean?Anyadvice is much appreciated.

Did it take off heavy contamination? I have the same grade glove/mitt that I have issues with taking real contamination out of paint and I end up just resorted to Meguiar's Mild clay to get the job done.

It seemed to work well but mostly it was just faster. I didn't use it for overspray so I can't comment unfortunately. I have found that real clay does work best.
