Hey guys, quick question. I just installed interior LEDs in my 2017 CM. The rear dome has that metal cover and then the plastic case goes over that. I can't for the life of me get the metal cover to "sit" correctly with the new LED bulbs. Can't I just get rid of the metal piece and put the plastic cover on and call it a day? Doesn't seem to me to be a heat shield for the bulbs.

Check out this video right around the 4 minute mark. The metal shield is a reflector.

Thanks for the reply. I had the same problem the guy in the video did with the metal reflector. He had to pull the LED out and then reinstall after the reflector was put back on. I tried that, put couldn't get the bulb to "poke out" of the metal reflector, so I just removed it. I guess it's ok without the reflector.

It will be fine without the reflector. The LED runs a lot cooler than the OEM bulbs so heat won’t be an issue.
What kit did you go with? Been thinking of upgrading mine as well.

That's what I figured, thanks. I went with GTR. Series is T10/194/168. They are nice and bright, huge upgrade. I also installed them in the cargo light, that was an even bigger improvement. I would recommend them.

Do you mean the bed light?

If so, test your range with the key fob when you lock your doors and the light is on

Thanks for your reply. I read a little about that issue. I have tried my fob while the light is on and haven't seen a difference yet.

I need to find a replacement for mine, as my range bites.

Glad to hear yours worked out. The led interior was the first thing I did to my truck, I love them

If I decide to do the upgrade, I’m going to buy the kit from them. They put the time and the effort into making the video that describes everything so I would definitely support them first.

6000k for interior and 8000k for exterior since I’ll get smoked tail lights soon...

I think I’m gonna skip the vanities for now. Unless my girlfriend is checking herself out, they won’t get any use.

Shoot, I use the vanity lights all the time. If it’s night time and I need a little light, I just open them up and point them at the headliner... the result is soft, useable, indirect lighting; perfect for doing whenever you don’t need the punch of the full LED cab light setup to turn night into day.

    God I love 2020.

That’s true. LED’s are bright so some indirect light would be nice.

Just replaced/upgraded the dome and map lights today, had the same issue with the metal plate on the dome so I didn't put it back on. Just used some 194's I had laying around.

Anyone have any tips for getting the rear dome light plastic cover back in properly? I can’t get it in without raising the headliner. No bueno

I have the metal cover sitting just fine. It’s the plastic part I can’t get back on. The two large prongs that attach near the buttons appears between plastic and headliner

Keep fiddling with it. You need to get the tabs behind the headliner. Took me a few times to get it back on properly.

I’m worried I messed up the tab trying to get it in. I’ll keep fiddling. Would the metal plate not being set right?

I got rid of the metal plate. I think the metal plate is just a reflector and not needed with the LEDs. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can confirm.

Anyone know if metal plate is merely a deflector?

That doesn't look too bad and wouldn't bother me. You'll be the only one who will ever notice it. I recently switched out my shifter in my 1794 edition to a TRD shift knob. My wife has driven in my truck at least 10 times since I changed it and hasn't noticed yet! We tend to look (more likely obsess) at our trucks more than 99% of drivers.
