Custom shock tuning is a necessity for both, but even more with the canti due to the motion ratio.

I have heard about this Simmons Built shop on IG making cantilever kits for decent price. I don’t know the shops reputability tho as far as getting the kit to cycle well. I don’t know if any other company making Cantilever kits other than LSK and Simmons

I don’t man, I don’t think flex is necessary for LCA mounts. A shock or bump would explode before the LCA or frame mount would break on a big hit in my opinion.

No, I'm not talking about a vertical hit that the shock or bumps would absorb tmmk come on man

I'm talking about side load, like you in a turn and hit a rock. Or the longitudinal load from hitting a sharp rock head on. Those pivots take a lot of force, left/right and front to rear. The whole point of a bushing is to absorb shock so parts don't break. The uca isn't a big deal, not a lot of force on those pivots. But the lowers have to control the whole weight of the truck.

There have been lower pivots that have broke due to hitting a rock that's too big. Now I'm not saying that a bushing would prevent that, but it's definitely better to have a bushing there than a hard mount

You used “tmmk” in here. Classic! Hahaha
I still like the heim LCA mount. I just think you’ll have bigger problems if it comes to an impact bad enough to brake a frame mount.

ok, now take this, and apply it to the complete build. :)

I’m a fan of the canti if you’re not trying to crush whoops and big jumps. Medium whoops and jumps it should be great for if you’re trying to keep bed space.

    Doesn't make you a noobie.

It's far better (in so many ways), easier, cheaper and lighter. Also a lot easier to upgrade and modify.

Trying to package a cantilever system under your bed severely limits shock choices. Also adds a bunch of extra weight and complexity.

Explain how there’s a negative weight comparison. Do you mean something pertaining to 2nd and 3rd Gen Tundras-? I’ve got MCM’s cantilever under my 1st gen and I’m certain it weighs less than a bed rack would. Also, I don’t see any limits on room for shocks, beyond what any similar truck would have. Please supply more info about limits on cantilevers compared to bed cages.

Sure. This is applies to trucks in general.

The added weight is from the cantilever bellcranks(arms) themselves, the mounts and the additional hardware required for them.

A bed cage is essentially the relocation of upper shock mounts and some frame bracing. When you cantilever, you still have to do all this (in a different location) and add the entire bellcrank and mount system.

As far as limits on shocks, once you punch a hole in the bed for shocks, there's nothing in the way. This is important for longer travel, larger diameter shocks and bypass tubes.

On a cantilever system, you have to package the bellcranks, mounts and shocks underneath the bed, between the axle, frame and rear bumper.

Hmmn. Thank you for answering. I’m trying to picture the problem; I guess it’s maybe true there’s more room between the axle and rear bumper in my 1st gen than some other trucks. I’ll be looking around for other trucks with cantilevers because now I’m curious.

    No problem.

Just to clarify, the added weight, cost, complexity etc comes into play when comparing bed cage vs cantilever setups that yield similar performance.

Yes there are very complex, expensive and heavy bed cage setups...and there are simple, cheap and lightweight cantilever setups. Will you end up with the same performance at the end? Probably not.

I don’t really care about name dropping so I’m just gonna say it. If some of you are on Instagram and know of a shop by the name of SS Built, why would a shop be promoting or utilizing LT kits that supposedly don’t work. Mainly talking about LSK race kits. It’s been proven by a lot of guys who have installed it that the axles are a problem. Has there been a fix for that I don’t know about? Or are people still snapping axles left and right? Just curious

I believe getting the RCV Long Travel axles are the only “solve” available. Not the most educated on the subject as I am still living as a peasant with my Mid Travel set-up. :pout:

Check out DFO_Motosports on IG. He’s running the same kit, SSBuilt. He beat the shit out of his truck and he never had any issues with his axles. I believe he’s still on OEs. I guess it all depends on how you use that LT suspension? LOL I mean if you rock crawl like it’s a Jeep, rate of breaking or snapping your Axle and Steering rack will be lot higher? Just my penny :-$

    Liltrok,

Not really sure who is snapping Axles left and right. We promote LSK because we feel it is one of the strongest well thought out kits on the market. Be it the Bolt-on kit or the Race kit. Both need to be installed properly, have the LT axles shafts assembled properly, and make use of limit straps and bumps if really being used for what it is meant for. We currently have built 7 trucks with the LSK kits...not one has had axle problems. And they all use their trucks. Especially DFO Motorsports. Multiple Baja trips etc. Not one issue with axles. Have 6 more trucks getting the Race Kits as we speak with confidence. If you want a strong kit that comes with a badass fabricated spindle and tierods, on top of other benefits, then we always recommend LSK. We are a dealer for Camburg and TC too. Love their stuff. But the premier for performance and strength will be LSK for your money.
