Will replacing the headunit affect remote start/locks through the Toyota app?

Hopefully, next week I'll be doing a complete factory speaker replacement w/JL C5 components and the 2 x 10Tw3 Stealth box if JL ever ships the box out. I've been going round and round debating whether to replace the HU now or to wait until the end of year to see what comes out between then and now. Still not sure.. lol

One thing I can't seem to find is whether replacing the HU will effect the remote start/locks through the Toyota app on the 2020s? I'm not sure how all the remote functions are tied in.

I took a look at the idatalink page and retained features for the Maestro RR or RR2 and didn't see that listed, but I wouldn't take that as definitive. Your best bet would be to give Crutchfield or idatalink a call and ask them. Both are very helpful and usually you get straight to a person with minimal waiting on hold, if any.

If you change out your head unit it will remove all of your Toyota Connect services. So if you use the app to remotely start, lock, unlock, locate your vehicle - all of those services will be lost. I believe the remote start via the key fob will still work, but I'm not 100% positive about that. This is precisely the reason I kept my stock head unit when I upgraded my sound system.

Appreciate the replies, thanks guys. I only have the remote start through the app, not on my FOB so that would be an issue.

It is on your fob, it just takes some practice to get it right. With your truck already locked, you have to press the lock button three times in succession, and kept it held down on the third press for about five seconds. The trucks hazards will flash, and it will start up.

    Awesome, Thanks!

I have no problems disconnecting Toyota if my FOB will do that. Prefer it, honestly.

Why not keep the head unit and swap out the amp? James Randy Taylor at Tech12volts will have something for you.

There are some nicer head units out there; but I did precisely what you suggested because I wanted to keep my Toyota Connected Services.

    Running JL
I'm just not a big fan of the factory HU tbh.
Running JL C5s in factory spots and the JL stealth box w/2×10Tw3 behind the seat.
