Calling all high mileage tundras

So I’m watching some YouTube videos and this guy is saying never stick to the 10,000 mile oil change interval. That it is too long. I’m wondering of all of you out there that have over 200,000 miles on your truck, did you stick with the 10,000 mile interval?

Plenty of Blackstone lab reports showing oil health after 10k mile change intervals from members here. That is why I do not hesitate and am comfortable changing my oil as recommended by Toyota at 10k miles with my non ffv engine.

 

You tubers are always my go to source for technical advice. Thanks for the the vid

 

Never a bad reason to change your oil at 3-5k miles even if you could drive it to 10k miles.

DIY cost is about $30-40 to change oil/filter and thats about the cost of two Iced Double Latte Mochas with Almond Milk for those of you that drink them everyday.

 

I purchased my 2007 when it already had 270,000... I'm about to hit 294,000. I have no maintenance records for the first 270k, so I am changing the O&F every 4000 miles.

Oil and filters are cheap... engines are expensive.

 

Send me your drain oil if you use synthetic, I'll run that stuff another 6K !

 

240k on my 2001, 10,000 mi intervals with synthetic for almost 20 yrs now. Doesn’t use a drop of oil to this day. I have no doubt I can get 500 k out of it....

 

I certainly don't have a high mileage Tundra but I think personally, I'm going to lean on what the engineers at Toyota recommends. Not what is posted in a youtube video from a channel that has 467 subscribers.

 

Obviously there is more life to motor oil today then there was 20 years ago but I still stick to every 5k, I want the cleanest oil running through The motor I don’t like to think of using every bit of life of oil before I change it. I’ve never heard of anyone regretting changing their oil too often. ‍♂️

 

I would have considered using synthetic if I purchased the truck new, but that's not the case so I use good old fashioned motor oil.

 

I'm changing every 10,000 miles in my flex 5.7. Blackstone Labs keeps telling me to go to 13,000 miles.

 

The engineers did say a 5000 mile oil change. But then the accountants decided it was too much money on the free maintenance they come with then pushed it to 10k so instead of 5 free oil changes you’d get 2. Also the earlier tundra ur models did have 5000 mile oil changes then the rest got 10k oil changes. What changed in the engine? Nothing. Look part no. For blocks heads cams vvti gears pcv system nothing changed so by some miracle you can go double the mileage?

I’d rather pay my cheap insurance because I have seen people’s faces when you hand them the estimate to replace vvti gears on a 3ur or worse replace an engine.

no disrespect to anyone. We will disagree and that’s ok. The oil analysis is great but it is not a comprehensive “health” report of an engine. Unless the lab is secretly coming into your garage tearing down the engine, inspecting all bearing and oil clearances? What about the filter? And what about the gunk that’s left over in the engine? Or maybe the little oil screen for the vvti gear that’s slowly clogging up? I’d rather spend my 30 dollars on an oil change or cheap insurance than oil analysis.

I might be just an idiot rambling on the internet, or I could be speaking from actual experience being inside engines like the 3UR? Don’t know and I doubt anyone cares. Thank you and Have a good weekend.

I watched that video posted in the other oil thread. It was the video of two guys talking on split screen and the one guy was the Blackstone Guy. Anyway, Blackstone Guy was asked the best oil change intervals (regardless if synthetic or not) and he said ‘5,000 miles’.

Someone prove me wrong on this.
