Pretty much what I did. I first noticed it taking the on ramp getting on the interstate. Hit the on ramp, gave it the beans to get up to speed, and it never downshifted. Later tested it like you said, matted the pedal and no down shift.

Sounds like confirmation to me. I actually like it this way as I never seemed to remember to use GL until I was up to cruising speed. Then I felt I had to put it in S-Mode, then manually upshift to 6th, and then hit T/H. The way yours is now (the way mine was) I would remember, the just press T/H and carry on without having to deal with the downshift/upshift business.

    While I'm rambling....
I know that it's been mentioned (I've done so myself) of the desire to have the transmission behavior to be that it remain in its current gear when flipped from D to S-Mode. Mat has stated that he hasn't found the code for this functionality, but that's not what I'm speaking to.

Something I noticed while overtaking on a secondary road was how much more efficient the maneuver seemed to be when as I was getting ready to move into the other lane, going from D to S-Mode (and the default functionality of going directly to 4th) in preparation seemed to save time by having the engine reved more into the powerband pre-pass. It downshifted further during the actual pass anyway, but it was "nearer" to the needed gear for the overtake. This made me wonder to myself if maybe this was more akin to what the engineers may have had in mind when they wrote the initial shift logic. It's more efficient than the aforementioned D to S-Mode w/out downshift, and then manually downshift. But then maybe this is where Mat's DirectShift feature would come into use...

Should be interesting to dink around with as development progresses.

I personally have it where GL will work both in tow/haul in D and S. I seem to like the tow/haul to not to GL when in D as I want the increased throttle sensitivity. I just towed my CJ7 from where I live in Fayetteville NC to Charlotte and ended up just manually shifting in D once I got to the mountains. I guess maybe I'm on the fence about GL, and once everything is completed, ask Mat to give me a tune with the updated trans tuning but without GL. I don't want to bother him now about it.

I am waiting for the GL and direct shift to become available to 2018’s. Looking forward to control in 4WD without the nannies taking over

Mine is a 2018, and I have GL. I miss not having the pedal feel with the tow/haul mode. Maybe direct shift would be a better option for me and just get rid of GL all together. I did use GL when I towed the RV from Miami to Fayetteville (7,500 lbs) and was monitoring temps. Honestly though I would just lock it in 4 or 5, and whenever I came to an overpass where the truck couldn't maintain, I would have to downshift. The old way to deal with rising temps was to drop it down a gear, to increase the flow of fluid in the transmission. With gear lock you would have to physically drop down a gear. I can see where GL would do very well (just guessing), such as tractor pulls where you want to lock it into gear, and let it eat.

They are, although we will be rolling out release in a few days.

He had the original implementation of gear lock.

Thanks for clarifying Mat. Does the new one work differently?

    yes.

okay guys I'm surprised you guys are still confused about this.

current / original implementation of gearlock worked like this:
You press the Tow haul button, and it disables downshifting.

    New version:
you put it into S4 (with/without pressing tow haul) it disables downshifting.

I sent an E-mail asking questions about data logging for the shifting on 5/27/20 through Zendesk and have not received a reply. Trying to be patient but want the shifting to be better controlled. Seems like it holds a gear even with letting off the gas for a very long time.

For anyone interested, Mat was able to successfully remove the throttle limits in 4lo for me. It works great now on steep hill climbs or technical trails. Still have to work on 4hi

Also, does anyone else have weird shifting in cruise control?? Seems like when I put it in cruise, the shift maps change and it starts hunting and holding higher revs on the freeway. basically cc is worthless for me right now

It has always seemed to me, in just about any vehicle stock or not, that CC feels quite aggressive in its efforts to maintain the set speed resulting in down shifts to do so, or exhibiting the behavior you're describing. When running an OVTune that includes GL, this obviously doesn't occur. CC may actually have a different map, I honestly don't know.

Yes, a couple of months ago. I had the cc set to 70, went down a hill then as I started going up the hill the truck acted like it was going to down shift but didn't at all and just slowed down like it I had turned off the cc. Pretty strange, but I wanted to wait and see if the final update fixes it.

yeah Ive had cc turn off on its own on hills before. Like if it needs to add too much throttle it just decides to turn off

I think this is oem behavior and I suspect that cc has its own shift table or something

This is interesting. When I've used CC coming off mountain passes (6-8% grade) in D, when I've reached a speed about 8-ish MPH over what my CC is set, the transmission will actually down shift and engine braking will ensue. I've never had my CC self-cancel. It has always behaved this way, stock or tuned.:monocle:

    Hey Matt,

those of us that are getting the custom tunes from you, once vftuner is available for our model year can you just give us the file to tweak ourselves? I would much rather just adjust those things instead of having to keep sending it back to bother you and waiting for minor things.

Speaking of that.. 2016FFV (CM51)... any eta on the tuner?

    Hi guys.
Tomorrow I will be posting how this update will be released, and what the update includes.
How the features work, and what ECUs are not supported yet ( sorry super old ECUs, like 07 )

    IMPORTANT ****

Tomorrow morning we will be emailing all Tundra owners with open tickets with us (folks who are waiting on an update with an open ticket, users who submitted logs w/ open ticket, etc)

*** IF you do not receive an email from us, but are a follower of this thread this means you do not have an open ticket with us, so please submit an email to us if you don't hear from us by 8PM EST tomorrow.

You are welcome to submit an email tonight if you'd like to.
If you have an open ticket though, that email will not be responded to, just FYI. (because we will respond to your original ticket)
