So doing some research here. I did a search but didnt find quite what I was looking for.

I have a 2008 Tundra Limited. From what I find, it looks like they come stock with 275/65/R18 with 3.55 gears?

My truck is sitting on 35/12.5/R18's right now.

I will be towing a trailer, the heaviest one we are looking at buying is about 5400 dry weight 7600 max weight. (probably go smaller though)

My gas mileage isn't good right now. The way I see it I have two options. I have a spare set of wheels I just bought

I was thinking about powder coating these and then putting maybe 33" Toyo Open Country MTs on it. Worried though with the BDS lift (think its 4.5, but not entirely sure) that 33" will look too small with the lift.

A gearing calculator is saying my other option would be to regear to 3.87.

Anyone with a 2nd Gen either have a 4.5 lift on 33's that you can share pics with? Did you like it or not?

Or if you have 35s and have regeared, can you share your experience? what did you regear to?

    What motor?

Do you have a factory tow package?

If a 5.7L with factory tow package, you should have 4.30 gears.

5.7... How do I know if I have the tow package? Should Limited with Crew Cab have the Tow package? so regearing wont do me much help then if I have 4.30 right? If I do have 4.30 and I go back to 33's you think I will gain any power/mpg? I'm trying to remember back to when I regeared my 4runner for 5.29 and I ran 33's when I could have run 35s... had lots of torque in low rpm but would be high RPM at 70mph. in that case I wasnt worried about MPG as much though.

    So you have 4.30 gears.

Going down to 33s will put you back to stock, so of course your power and a couple MPGs will be back.

You are correcting your fuel economy calculations right? You are traveling a further distance than the vehicle is calculating so in theory (if you are not using a correction mutliplier) you are actually getting slightly better economy than you think.

33’s will be better, but they still weigh a lot more than stock tires. Your options are Either 4.88 gears or smaller tires than 35’s

Gotcha... just realized 275/65 (stock right?) is a 32 not a 33? hmm.... Im gonna probably have to see how it looks with 32 or 33s on the truck.

Anyone notice a difference in MPG between different treads? I.e. AT to MT of the same size tire? I know it affects sound a lot. Not so worried about that. The two tires Im looking at both are pretty quiet regardless of AT/MT. Theoretically the tread shouldnt really matter in and of itself... but wondering if anyone has any real life thoughts about it?

Also, if I do regear who here has regeared? what did you use? Any special add-ons I should look into? (i.e when I regeared my 4runner I put in a Trutrac LSD since i used to wheel it. Not sure if that is a positive or negative when towing.

    Rock warrior stock was 285/70/17

Typically it's a buy once cry once thing. Toss a true LSD or blocker back there at the same time.
