I had manual transmission. Your arguments are not valid. It's a fine truck for what it is. Around town, fire roads, camping, hauling a bike or jet ski... it does fine and 25K people a month will tell you the same.thing. Tundra is a different vehicle designed for a different lifestyle. I see more Tundras as work vehicles around here than Fords.

    Getting things done...
    Mudflaps are off.
Stainless TRD exhaust tip is on. (pulled from my Taco)
Used Techstream to nuke the silly seatbelt chimes and tweaked a few other preferences...
Got my 5% window tint done and also the visor strip.
Next will be the wireless charger for the console lid and a bed mat.20200721_180435_resized.jpg 20200721_180523_resized.jpg 20200721_180508_resized.jpg 20200721_181808.jpg

His arguments ARE valid. Your objection is not. He thought the 3rd gen Taco sucked, as did I and a lot of other people. Yeah they sell a lot of them, and a lot of those buyers complain about them every day on TacomaWorld. The power train sucks, period. It may be as reliable as any ever put in a Toyota, but from a performance perspective, it sucks. The final straw for me was when my 2018 had to downshift to 3rd to get up a moderate hill with nothing but me in the truck. Traded it in that day and have zero regrets except that I ever bought it in the first place. You will never convince me that it’s a “fine truck”.

    I agree with you 100%.
I just didnt want to get into it with him. Ive moved on to the Tundra and couldnt be happier about it.

I will not argue that the Tacos are sharp looking. I REALLY wanted to like the truck but it was just too difficult to drive without frustration.
My wifes 4runner is perfectly fine.

The one I had was beautiful too. Maybe if they put a 4:30 rear end in it like the Tundra, it wouldn’t be a completely gutless machine. Whatever. I’m glad I got rid of it.

    Welcome and nice truck!

I like the Tacoma, but needed more space. The Tacoma is a sports truck. Toyota knows most people buy them as lifestyle vehicles. The high sprung engine is for that baja or rally style driving excitement that is unique rather than a commuter or work truck. Imagine Ken Block Gymkhana style, but in truck form.

That would make sense... but what Ive seen pretty common on the Tacoma Forum is guys adding 500lbs of bumpers & winches, along with another 1000lbs of overlanding gear, rooftop tents, jacks, etc...

The Taco NEVER should have been geared the way it is and NEVER should have had a passenger car engine put in it with the high-revving powerband that it has.
They should have used the 4runner 4.0/5speed or even a small V8.

Still... badass looking little trucks... but im so "over-it" now. I made the Taco mistake like so many others... and not afraid or ashamed to admit it.
    "It is what it is"
I've been driving and building cars/hotrods for 38 years and I know when something is not right. This new Tundra is now a perfect example of what IS RIGHT and I could not be happier driving this thing.

I love that this truck has massive wheelwells. It looks like I could just slap a set of 35's on it just as it sits. :monocle:

Congratulations on the Tundra purchase. I could not agree more on the Tacoma. After two Gen 2's with the 4.0 and 5 speed auto (2011 and 2014) I bought an 18 OR, with the 3.5 drivetrain. Bought my 2019 Tundra OR after about 8 months of cussing that Camry motored Tacoma. The Tacoma is a good looking truck but Toyota really dropped the ball on the drivetrain for it. Bought the 2019 Tundra OR and never looked back.

Just stopped at Tractor Supply and picked up a 4x6 horse stall mat for $48.
Its 3 times thicker than the Toyota bed mat and less than half the price. Probably weighs damn near 75lbs.
Chopped 6" off and it fits perfect.

Averaging just over 18mpg right now on a trip from GA to PA. Im totally cool with this since the V6 Tacoma wasnt any better.

Just ordered a set of LT35x12.5/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers last night, along with a set of 18x9/25mm offset Method 305's in matte black.
The 3" lift showed up yesterday... so I may work on that this weekend.
Should have wheels/tires by mid-week next week... so hopefully truck will be all together by next weekend.

Still waiting on nickel and dime stuff... but otherwise the main stuff is here and ready to go on the truck.

I also traded in my 2018 taco. But, I had absolutely no issue with the truck at all. I also don’t have any issue with the fact that after 42,000 miles I lost $2300 on the truck in depreciation. But, as my GF and I travel more and more with our trailer, the taco just was not what we needed. It didn’t like pulling 4300 pounds up mountains in the Rockies when we are on vacation. It was fine here in Florida LOL

    A LOT... NEVER ENDS
That will go way down after new rims and tires put on. I know mine did with just 295/70 nittos.

    I get like 12-13.5 now
