Hello Everyone! I am new at this forum and maybe you guys can help me out. I recently purchased a 2015 Toyota Tundra and noticed that upon starting the vehicle coming out of Park and upon acceleration between 10-15 MPH I would hear a snapping sound. I only hear this sound upon the initial starting of the vehicle. Can anybody help me out on this?

My 15 does not do this. Agree with Mike, take it to the dealer.

I agree. Make sure you can duplicate it, if it is sporatic try taking video with your phone to show the tech in case you can't replicate it while at the dealership.

I did this with a squeaky belt, and they didn't care. They have to see it in person to determine the issue.

Agreed, but it may help with them scheduling another appointment, the dealership justifying providing a loaner/rental for the warranty work, and showing proof to the tech. The tech will still have to duplicate the issue to fix it, but at least they will believe you that the noise is there.

After my transmission was replaced I had, well still have, a heat shield rattle or something similar somewhere under the truck. It's not consistent though and is hard to duplicate. I have been too busy and it's been too cold to check it myself, I need another person to help. Dealership couldn't duplicate the problem but the tech saw the video and it surprised him how loud the sound was. He knew there was an issue with the truck and not my head. When it goes back in I know he will try to figure it out since he heard it too (kind of).

Hopefully he has better luck than I did. I had to pay for the rental while they kept it for 1.5 days as they couldn't get it to duplicate, despite my video of it.

Agreed on the tech..that way they don't think you're imagining things lol

Curious if you found anything out about the sound, mine does the same thing. More of a popping sound though coming from somewhere upfront.

Lets get the obvious out of the way. You don't by any chance keep it in 4-hi do you? The other thing that comes to mind is the doors automatically lock @ 15 MPH. That makes a decidedly 'snapping' sound. Other than that, I got nothin'

Chico - mine does the same thing. Sounds and feels like its coming from the transfer case, although that's just a guess. It's somewhat of a higher pitch, metal to metal and I can feel it (slightly) as well as hearing it. Please post if you get any real results after going to the dealer. I haven't had my first oil change, but need to soon. I plan on addressing at that time. I'm also getting ECM reprogram done, AND.....having my alarm chirp disabled while they have the computer plugged in.

Mine makes a pop coming from the bed when going over uneven terrain, like say a gravel driveway with pot holes you go slow in. Sounds like it could be a bed to frame bolt loose. I will wait until it gets worse then tell them when I bring it in for the 5k check up.

did you ever get the rattle from your speaker fixed? I have one from my driver door...unless that is me being picky. The bass is where I hear it. :rockband:

I've read on other forums that the ABS module on some makes a loud bang. Not sure if it's correct or not. Mine does the same thing.

Got my ECM flash done and first oil x the other day. Asked dealer about the popping sound that many have experienced, and he (also) said that the sound is the ABS module doing some kind of a self-test.

I have not, I got a little busy and still haven't taken it in. The rattle has seemed to die down a little though, but could be because of the warmer weather and materials in the door expanding. Mine is in the driver side door too.

Mine also makes that sound. Took it to the dealer and they said they have not idea why. So we should just not worry about it? I had a 2012 and it didn't make that sound. It doesn't sound normal to me.

It is the ABS doing it's self test/calibration. It happens at about 15MPH the first time after you start and drive the vechicle. Our BMW and Honda do the same thing although it is a tap on the BMW and a humming sound on the Honda. Sometimes my Tundra makes a slightly louder or softer tap to a (clap) sound. It depends on acceleration or up or down a hill effects how loud it is. On rare occation i can fell it in the steering wheel and brake pedal. The sound is normal.

Yeah, I hear the same sound, almost a metallic thud around 15MPH. Took it to the dealer yesterday, and among other squawks, I mentioned this and was told it's the ABS and it's supposed to do this. My neighbor has the exact same truck (TRD 5.7L 4X4) and his doesn't do this.

Had the same sound and concern. Dealer said it's the ABS and that it is supposed to do that.

Mine does the same thing at 15mph. Dealer said it's supposed to make that sound, but that doesn't make sense. Why would Toyota "create" a sound that buyers will question? Manufacturers try to makes things quieter, not create noises that create suspicion, huh?

Its not toyota. The supplier that made the abs was given a spec to go by to match it from toyota. Tundra is a heavy heavy truck to stop. All that weight stopping you want to have a system that checks itself to confirm nothing is wrong system before putting it to maximum use.
