Has anyone driven their Tundra on the beach? Wondering what tire pressure you used and the clearance (2016 TUNDRA LIMITED TRD PRO) problems if any. Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forum.

15-20 psi should do the trick.

Depends on the beach, some is hard packed sand and won't need deflating. I don't deflate when I'm riding the Oregon Coast, I just keep in 4hi. I do have adjustable tire deflators just in case. I'm not rolling on stock tires either.

You have plenty of clearance rolling stock. Air down to 15-17 psi precautionary. Seen plenty of stock Tundras out on OBX. I've recently made the switch from 1998 GMC 771, now excited to get my Tundra on the beach.

Avoid gray sand, probably too wet. If it looks squirrelly it probably is.

You would be amazed at how different the truck handles or any vehicle for that matter when you air down the tires. It's not so much psi you're looking for it's a nice floaty look to it. You're trying to broaden the footprint. Having 4x you shouldn't have too much of a problem leaving it alone. But I have gone very far in my 2 Wheel Dr. pick ups in the past just airing down all four tires. I used to drop my 2002 ram tires on 20 inch rims down to about 15- 18 psi in the rear and about 20-22 front if you're hauling a load or not you may want more PSI, which is why I say you're looking for the proper bulge. Granted I had a limited slip but I was able to go many places that 4 x 4 trucks were getting stuck. And a lot of people think they only need to air down the drive tires which in turn make the other tires like pizza cutters digging into the sand. You're trying to float on top of it, also have a light foot when getting started so that you don't sink. I have yet to air down my tundra so I couldn't tell you the perfect psi for that. But just remember you are aired down and you could very likely pop a bead if you play too much. Just remember "flotation".

I live next to and work in the imperial sand dunes (glamis). Sometimes I air down to about 12. No tight turns, you might break a bead. The most important thing is to air down BEFORE you're stuck. I carry s little viair compressor $50 on Amazon. I hate digging. If you do get stuck, jack up ride n put sand under your tires, aired down tires of course. Don't dig yourself deeper. It's easy. Don't ask me about mud. No such thing here.

I live in Daytona Beach and drive the beach almost daily. I go from the road to the sand without changing my air pressure ever. If I get to far up in the dunes into the sugar sand and start to bog down I throw the 2WD/4WD switch to 4WD and keep on keeping on. Our trucks can take very good care of themselves...

Carry 2 old beach towels too. They work in a pinch if you forgot your max trax or shovel.

I've driven an older standard 4x4 Toyota, an SR5, and a newer Tacoma on OBX beaches for years and never had a problem that required me to deflate...4WD was the only requirement. I had a Chevy Silverado 1500 that had some fairly aggressive mud tires and it got stuck as soon as I crossed the dunes. Lesson there? Radial road tires are much better in sand than mudders. And as stated, the wider the footprint, the better.
