Only problem with hunting in the east 1/3 of WY is a large amount of the land is private.

I used to live in Rapid (SD), so I spent quite a bit of time in Eastern WYO. Still have a cabin in Spearfish Canyon, but I would live in Sheridan in a heartbeat. Winters can be BRUTAL and the wind blows A LOT, that's the reason I said "it's the least populated State in the nation for a reason." It can be extremely harsh. I always used to say that 40 below keeps the riff-raff out, but then I went to Minneapolis. So much for that argument.

No apologies needed. The schools are pretty similar, all are basically as safe as any other. I don't have kids, so I can't help as much there, but any of the higher population (relatively speaking) towns/cities have multiple options.
As far as work, it depends on what you do. The cost of living is lower in the state, so wages can be a bit lower as well. Don't think that you can't make your bills on the pay cut without researching first. Most of Wyoming is pretty conservative, unless you are in the NW area and some parts along the Northern border. Those are also the places that most people think are just gorgeous, so tourists fill them and people buy their second or third vacation homes there. Prime example, Harrison Ford has a place up in Jackson. That part of the state is a mini california/colorado.

If you don't want to put too many details about your work on the public interwebs you can PM me and I'll offer what info I can. I value anonymity and privacy online so I won't share anything without your blessing.

I have property in Star Valley Wyoming, near Jackson. It's expensive like the coastal parts of California. If you're looking for a slower way of life, then parts of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Utah is the way to go. Unfortunately, many people know this and are moving to these places. Idaho, Utah, Montana have seen a HUGE insurgence of Californian's move in and drive our once "affordable" home prices through the roof. My home value has increased significantly. Utah's home prices are up 50% over the past two years. Anyways, there are affordable parts of the country still. Most of which are in the Deep South, OUT of the major cities. Good luck with your search.

Do a search on city-data.com. Tells you crime rate, population, schools, neighborhoods, etc.
