Radio limiting USB drive to 255 songs?

On my 2015 Tundra I could load up to 300 songs per file on the usb thumb drive and I had a total of 1800 songs on my thumb drive. Plugged it into the 2020 usb port and it is only showing 255 songs. Do I need to make 7 different thumb drives at 255 songs each or how do I get the system to play random with the current 1800 song drive like the 2015 truck did?

Audio manual answered the question and you have to manually change to the next folder which is OK.

I have tried several different thumb drives and cant get the radio to recognize the thumb drive. I have a 2020 jbl h/u. What format are you guys using on thumb drives and what hierarchy
Is it just put music on their or can it be

I have an older 4 gb Kingston Data Traveler G3 2.0 formatted in FAT32 that works perfectly. I just copied songs onto it and didn't mess with folders.

Neglected to check the manual before buying a 128 gb Kingston Data Traveler 3.0. It somehow worked when I initially loaded all my music on (one folder per album) but it was taking too long to switch folders. I formatted it and loaded songs into the root folder like on my 4 gb and now nothing I do will make it work. Formatted it two different ways. Loaded albums in separate folders like I originally did and it still won't work. I guess that's $40 down the drain.

My rant is this: they obviously had to modify the HU for 2020 to get it to work with AA and Car Play. But they couldn't be bothered to make it work with USB 3.0? Where am I supposed to buy a USB 2.0 thumb drive with decent capacity for a reasonable price these days?!

I think all the newer ones are ntfs and it wont recognize that structure. I went through the same thing in my 2020 Tundra with a Corsair Survivor thumb drive

 

According to Google, the standard format for larger thumb drives is exFAT because apparently FAT32 isn't compatible with files larger than 4 gb. But there is a way to format large drives with FAT32 so I'm going to give that a shot.

I've got a 2020 Platinum with Entune 3.0 JBL so there may be some differences. I use a 64GB thumb drive, Entune and probably most head units can only read FAT16 or FAT32, it won't read ExFat or NTFS so download Rufus https://rufus-usb.en.uptodown.com/windows and format for FAT32.

Since Entune can only read 255 files per folder I load my music on the thumb drive in folders by artist and then inside that folder I break it down by album. There's a max of 3000 folders it can read with a max of 9999 files for the whole stick. After Entune reads your entire thumb drive, this will take 5 minutes or so, then select Song List so it'll play all the songs on your thumb drive, I also select Random. I've got 899 folders and 9860 files and it's working just fine, as my collection grows I'll try to go over the 9999 limit to see what happens. I've got a media reader hooked up to my Bose at work and another to my home stereo that say they can only read a 32GB thumb drive but are working with at 64GB.

One thing that bothers me is it won't show the Album Art once you take it out of drive due to safety - BS - if someone can figure this one out and pass it along PLEASE DO!!!
