The dealership would still bill 30 mins of tech time for the harness install anyway, so repinning makes more sense...

I suppose so. I admit I'm rather ignorant to how recall billing works at a dealership, so that sounds reasonable.

Had I known that I wouldn't have doubted you for a second! :hattip:

So for those who have already fixed this ourselves, is there a way we get this marked as “fixed” without having to visit the dealer?

Better question: can I make Toyota reimburse me for my time spent fixing the issue prior to the recall? ;)

TBH I dont think so. As miniscule as the repair is, Toyota will only recognize a repair completed by a factory trained certified technician. You will have to visit a dealer. Its considered a safety recall. Just take it in and tell the dealer you did it yourself but you want them to verify the repair and mark it as completed.

As it happens, my truck was already scheduled to go in Saturday morning for the fuel pump recall and the radar sensor service campaign.
Just got off the phone with the dealer and had them add the turn signal recall to the list. Explained that I already did the fix and requested that they simply inspect and mark as completed. Really don't care if they claim the half hour for the turn signal, just want to clear the recalls.

Ohhhh I see it now, you have the different style sockets. I only noticed this because apparently I bought the wrong replacement LED bulbs, they wouldn't fit. So while I was there and said "fuck it" and tried swapping the wires to see what would happen.

Just did mine in 10 minutes. Didn’t remove anything. Only needed a tiny flathead screwdriver.

    Let’s test this theory.

Toyota, if you’re still listening, pay off this truck for me and we’ll call it even. LOL

Since some new Toyota techs & experts and have joined in ...

How did Toyota pass NHTSA lighting requirements/tests? Isn't there a requirement & test for brightness , etc.?

Ask the NHSTA. They are the ones that passed it. My guess would be that it still met the minimum standards. Just because something is approved by X standard doesn't mean it's amazing. Don't believe me? Do some research on the DOT Safety Ratings for motorcycle helmets.

Damn I was really hoping I wouldn’t need to remove the batteries for this. Any thoughts from the technicians on here if you came across a dual battery setup in the shop. I’m not opposed to doing the work myself but my truck is going in for the fuel pump recall tomorrow and thought maybe knock them both out while in there. 6EA2EE77-222C-442A-85F3-81403C82E69C.jpg

I’d you don’t want to remove the batteries, you can always pull the grille and the filler panel below the light and go in that way

So after repinning, which was super easy, if I wanted to switch to LEDs which should I get? 7444NA or 3157ck? Also do I need a fix for hyper flash?
