The TB was done in 2012 at 110k (currently at 171k). I was going to wait (still may) until next summer if I decide to sell her, but I’m thinking of going ahead and doing it sooner due to leaning to keep the truck indefinitely. I have so much time and money invested in her at this point and she is optimized it just seems like a no brainer. My Cam Seals leaking are the main reason for me wanting to expedite.

I have never done a TB. I see Schley has a Nut Removal tool (unavailable currently) that has great 4.7L reviews on Big Gurrl. There is another kit with the little Cam lever bar included from China. I need a good pulley puller for removing all the TB Pulleys.

Might end up with $150 in tools I may never use again. :notsure:

Pull the radiator and a half inch impact will buzz the crank bolt off. As for torquing it I made a holder from a chunk of stainless that rests on the frame.

the seals you just need seal pullers, an installer can be made with pvc and creativity to use the bolt to drive it in straight.

    The FSM calls them SST’s.

What you using? I’d rather not buy stuff if I can make due with some tip tricks.

Typically doing cam seals I do have the valve covers off though. So I hold the cams. Do not try using the bolt to install the seals if you cannot hold the cams. Instead drive them in with a hammer nice and even

I have the Momba 1/2” Impact. No fear of the drive shaft spinning when reversing the nut? How about the Cam Pulleys? How to keep those from spinning for removal?

If the crank spins when removing the bolt, don’t worry about it. Just put the bolt back in hand right without the pulley and rotate it back to time. There is a timing mark on the oil pump and the timing gear at the bottom for this reason.

The cam pulleys aren’t too bad. They’re never super tight. Just using something to hold them in the openings on them. They can move a little. You just don’t want them jumping

    Question for the experts...
The hose in blue absolutely has to have the bends in it from factory? 20200715_234714.jpg
Hose in pink is discontinued per the parts god.

Well the bends allow it to get to where it needs. Those are the hoses for the inlet of the heater Core that box is for controlling the coolant flow to your heater

Poking around emgine bay to check for leaks, and what not.

Happened to notice that some of the (cowl?) clips/grommets are missing.

    20200716_060035.jpg 20200716_060231.jpg 20200716_060201.jpg

Reaching out to stealer out of curiosity. These clip/grommets don't really feel like they are doing anything anymore. They just kinda sit in the hole. Hopefully new ones will feel like PCV valve going in. With firm huggies all around by new grommet.

    Will report back.

Yeah I bought some new ones and they work great. After removing and reinstalling my front cowl a few times for painting, new front windshield, and the famous leak repair over the blower the already brittled ones turned to chips.

Did you have to remove wiper arms for cowl removal, or just the wipers, and then carefully slide cowl out over arms?

Thats the Hand Model Early Respond Signaler. Lets us know when we get a gig so to report back to the photo studios.

Seriously, its an XM Radio antennae circa 2003. Been wanting to get one of those XM Radar Globe Antennas like some truckers have. Only way I can figure how to install it to look best is on a pole off the bed corner near the cab. Make my truck look like a SEAL Team Commando Unit.

When new clips come in, I may investigate just out of curiosity. See what kind of gunkies are all up in it.

May even be able to fix the drivers side wiper "rattle" :D

What part numbers did you use for the cowl clipies? PHM conformation?
I’m ordered some upgrades that might need me to mess around w the cowl.

I would assume the rotors are the same as well? I'm placing an order for some Toyota parts and may throw in some new rotors from Cool Springs while I'm at it.

The front rotors are not as expensive as I was expecting. Did you stick with OEM pads or go aftermarket?

The GX460 I got the parts off of had a ton of life left so I used all OEM parts from that SUV. I feel like they had to of recently changed the pads on it as they were pretty thick.

I haven't been around as much in the past few weeks so maybe I missed it, but did you give a full review of the WA caliper setup somewhere you can point me to?

I didn't really do anything scientifically speaking but posted some feedback...somewhere.

I went from 13we (same as the 00-02 setup) to 14wa.

Initial impressions weren't drastic but could definitely feel an improvement.

After putting some real mileage on my truck, I did notice quite a big improvement. The way I was able to describe it best is, in normal traffic when there was a sudden stop I was always panicked about actually stopping in time. This is where I'm paying attention but maybe a big truck is in front of me so I can't see traffic around it and the stop seems to be from out of nowhere...

I still get that panic but as soon as I apply the brakes it subsides almost immediately because the difference is that much!

I haven't had to do anything up/downhill to see brake fade with either set but I can imagine the 14wa will absolutely shine here.

Overall, I had about $160 into the upgrade and it was WELL worth it. The pedal is still "mushy" to a degree but stopping power is absolutely better.

The "local" pick up for me is in Louisville, KY. 2 hours away.

I wait until I have multiple things to order to save on shipping costs. Not much cost savings driving 4 hours round trip. Now, theres another 1st genner who is around Louisville on the forum. Might be worth looking into for them. Can't remember who.

    @04TundraTRD

Neil, try this to see if its economical for you to pick up parts from your local stealer. Might be worth it for you. Toyota of Louisville at this address is a participating dealer in online parts order, and in store pick up.
