Like many late 90s early 00 vehicles, the hood and roof on my Tundra are in bad shape paint wise. Should I sand and repaint the same color (strato blue) or sand and paint the hood and roof textured black (like they do on some jeeps and such) to give it a different look? This has never been and will never be a show quality vehicle but I still want it to look decent. All the bodywork would be done myself. Just wanted to hear some thoughts.

Same color. I fixed a side doink and it turned out ok for a first timer. You can do this, too.

I don't see the point in the black hood and roof. If anything, the textured paint should be at the bottom skirts to protect from stone chips etc. not on the hood.
I vote for the same color.

These pictures were taken a few years ago during the Solar eclipse... you can see how bad the clear coat on the hood & roof of my 2002 work truck was, well it got even uglier when the paint on the front of the hood began to blister earlier this year.

A couple months ago I decided to have both sprayed with Line-X, and I am very happy with the results.

How would you paint it the same color? Color matching spray paint? It’ll never look the same.

So instead of trying to make it look original. Change it and go black.

Fenders, doors and quarters have all stayed true to the original color, especially since my wife's uncle hit a thing or two when he had it (minor damage backing into things) and he always had the damage fixed. I'd do the same color by having an auto body paint supply store mix me a quart. I was sort of thinking of going along the lines of what Rex did with his Tundra, and then sanding/painting to original color if I don't like the look. I repainted the wife's Mini Cooper bumper to original color, with just a very slight difference in coloration due to age/fading on a 16 year old car, and it came out pretty decent. With the heat wave going thru the TX Panhandle recently, I think this project will be put on hold until my fall vacation when temps will HOPEFULLY be more tolerable.
That Raptor liner is DAMN cool, but seems a little $$$. Badass stuff though

Yes I color matched the chrome mirrors when I fixed the side doink. Thats an old pic from 2 years ago.
