^^I definitely don't want to overload any circuits, thinking of a Bluesea fuse block install to power it!

 

This is the one I ended up buying (Viofo A129 Pro Dual). It arrived yesterday, now I'm waiting for the The Dashcam Store rear mounting bracket and hardwire kit to come in the mail tomorrow so I can start the install.

Anyone using dash cam mirror w/ backup cam product similar to pic below?

 

So I bought the same set-up as you...hoping to install it all in the next day or so. How did you end up installing the hardwire kit? I'm still trying to figure out this "parking mode" thing. Basically what I want is for the camera to be powered off when it's parked until an impact (like someone hitting my truck while parked) and then have the camera turn on and start recording...not sure if that's how it works or not though. I dont want the camera to constantly run and drain the battery. Bc if that's the case, I'm going to just use the hardwire kit to be used as just a way to avoid using the cigarette lighter port and de-clutter the dash.

 

Parking mode can be set to off, auto event detection, low bitrate recording , or time lapse. I hardwired as I said, dome and p/outlet 2 Works fine. I’ve only used low bitrate in parking mode. Good camera so far, no issues.

 

@TxLock21 How did the install go? I'm also interested in this cam.

So I finally got around to installing my VIOFO A129 Pro Duo, along with the VIOFO hardwire kit, Dashcam Store rear mounting bracket (short, grey in color) and VIOFO polarizing lense. Here are a couple of the pics from the install. I hardwired the BATT wire to an empty fuse slot that ran contestant power and the ACC wire to an empty fuse slot that only turned on when the truck was turned on (I used a test light to figure out what slots to use), along with using Add-A-Fuse’s. I also made sure to install the fuses correctly, paying attention to which side of the fuse was the “load” side.

I tucked the wires behind the A-Pillars and behind the airbags. For the rear cable, I ran it along the top trim, though I wanted to run it along the floor trim but the cable wasn’t long enough. So far, so good. I’m going to take it out and about tomorrow to get some footage.

My only gripe is that the cable for the rear camera isn’t angled, so the cable goes straight up and then I had to pull back down to tuck it in. Not as clean as I would’ve liked it, but I’m not going to let it spoil my happiness haha

Also excuse the dirtiness...it’s been raining and this damn pollen is everywhere and I’m “essential” so I don’t have the luxury of staying home to self-quarantine and wash the truck haha

 

Install looks great. How much does it standout from outside from the front of the truck.

 

Barely noticeable. I have it mounted right behind the rear view mirror so I barely know it’s there when I’m driving, but it also blends in well from the outside. Unless you’re specifically looking for it, you won’t notice it.
So far I’m enjoying the extra insurance of having it though.

 

@TxLock21: do you have any pics of which pieces of trim you had to remove to route the rear cable and the power wires to the fuse box?

I don't have any pics but the only trim I removed to route the rear cable (and also power cable) were the A-Pillar trim pieces. Once I removed those, I made sure to route the cables behind the airbags. From there, I just tucked the cable into the weather stripping and trim along the top of the doors all the way to the rear camera.

As far as the power to the fuse box, I used a voltmeter and found a blank fuse slot that only used power when the truck was turned on (accessory power). I did this because I have no desire to use the parking function of the camera, I just wanted a clean look with no wires hanging out of the cigarette port.

 

That's what I ended up switching to, only I ordered a VIOFO brand cable.

Great! I am getting the same setup, glad to hear it’s an easy install. I wanted to just tap into 12v at the mirror, but I want to try to set it up for parking mode.
I still need to order a rear mount and the angled usb...

 

I’m waiting for a longer cable in the mail so I can install the rear camera. I love the front facing camera. I was hoping to find a good tutorial on here for routing the wiring for the rear cam, but I’m still searching.

 

I have the Akaso DL12 in my honda pilot I think it has a very good picture front and rear at night the headlights blind the rear camera the mirror shakes a bit wen driving but I’m getting used to it. Other than that 2 of my Cowerkers got it cause of me and they like it. I’m happy with it and the price was not bad at all

Is there any dash cams that have those little domed cameras for under the side mirrors in addition to front and rear? Like a 4-channel camera system?

 

I ran mine around the drivers side, under the headliner (behind the airbags). Since I have a double cab I didn’t need as much of the length, so I coiled the extra cable behind the panel near the drivers side rear passenger seat belt mechanism. (I didn’t want to shove it behind the headliner)

My only non-reversible mod was notching a 1/2” by 1/2” cut out in the headliner to accommodate the plug going into the rear camera. If I ever pull the camera I don’t think it wouldn’t be too noticeable.

Because I don’t have the crew max roll-down rear window I didn’t need a special mounting bracket for the rear camera. It fit snug on the frame, right above the sliding window.

 

I was surprised to see so many of you putting it by the window. I was kinda thinking about mounting it by the bumper. Now I’m not sure!

 

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe this camera could survive outside. It's definitely not weatherproof.

 

Well I think the majority of us (myself included) are talking about interior cameras. I think mounting one on the rear bumper (which would be pretty cool) would require a weather-proof camera.

 

Ah. For the Akaso DL12, the seller says it’s waterproof in the Q and A. Hmm.

 

Can you take a picture of the fuse box slot you used?

 

I know this is an old thread, but thats the same one I bought. I have been happy with it so far, currently its just setup to the cigarette lighter. Did you hard wire yours to the fuse box? If so which fuse did you use?

 

Is this what you are looking for? I have been trying to find out, but most of the ones I have found are for RV's, so the cameras are huge. 3 stars with 68 reviews is a bit low for me, but I keep looking.

So question for those of you with the Blackvue front and back set up. How did you mount your rear camera? I don't want to stick it to the window since I actually took it down and I don't want to use the sticky ok the headliner. Any thoughts?
