Possible candidate. I went to Luther Brookdale in Brooklyn Center. They did me right on the frame replacement.

check Toyota.com/recall to see if the recall is still open, but make sure before you bring it in that it actually has holes in the crossmember.

It is NOT on the Toyota.com/recall site. Does that mean I am outta luck?

Maybe, unless you can sweet-talk the dealer somehow. Honestly, that looks pretty decent anyways. If they don't do anything for you, strip it down, paint it, keep it fluid-filmed, and enjoy it. it'll be fine.

Wire wheel frame, por15 treatment, then rustoleum bedliner?

Don't do the Bedliner. A few rock chips to break the seal and it will trap moisture and make it worse.

The rest of it is a great idea.

Glad I found this thread. My 2004 SR5 - bought it this past December - has rust all along the frame....so far have not seen holes but I want to get it to a dealer to do a thorough inspection.

I see that 2004 is not a covered year for the rust issue :( I followed the advice here and registered at the Toyota Owner site and saw the service record below.

I see "Limited Service Campaign" - so 2004 was apparently covered by this? Looks like the owner moved forward with the service. But as I mentioned, there is rust everywhere. Perhaps there LSC is intended to be a one-time service?

Correct, the LSC was a one time either frame coating or replacement and has now expired for all 1st gen trucks.

Removing the rust and painting is what lies in your future.

Yeah and that's a project. There are a couple of independent rust treatment services in this area....one that provides Zeibart products and another that does rust conversion / undercoating / rustproofiing using Noxudol products. Also noted the SafeTCap reference by a poster. We'll see what the inspection report says and figure it out from there.

Hey shootemintheface , how did you get yours replaced? Mine had the cross member coating but yesterday my top shock mount rusted off and flew out the back hitting another car. Could have killed someone. My truck looks great except for the fact it is about ready to break in half. Can't sell it, the dealer won't help. and Toyota is useless. I thought I would buy another Tundra but not even an option based on what I have been dealing with. If anyone has some tips and tricks to get them to fix this, I am all ears.

If you or someone before you took it in for the recall and they sprayed it then that's it. It did not meet the requirement. The info is in the thread. Honestly I'm surprised toyota is still even doing the frame replacements. Gonna cost them 10-15k truck was only around 30k new. And it's almost 2x fair market value. Two other ppl I know had theirs replaced a few months back. Was in the truck the other day. Drove like a new truck.

Fraid so my friend. I’d look at gibbing a fab shop nearby and paying them to install these.

Has anyone had success getting a frame replaced AFTER 2010 for areas that rusted out (in GREEN) after 2010? I have some serious rust issues now that i think Toyota missed (on purpose) and now they are saying they won't replace the frame. I have a 2003 xtra cab that is otherwise in great shape, only 90K miles.

from the information TMC told me 'your vehicle was part of the recall" however the original lease holder did not send back the 'post card' to get his frame exchanged and as the second owner we cannot help you i need a class action anybody out there?

Your truck was never recalled for the frame, if the service adviser told you that it was incorrect.

06 was covered under the LSC which expired at least 3 years ago. Had nothing to do with which owner reported it.

I have a 2003 Tundra where the frame is rusted through so bad the frame holding the front steering stabilizer is broken off. Can I still get this fixed through the recall? The truck has only 87,000 miles.2003 frame rust.jpg See pict.

Only if the rear cross members are rotted. Check the first post in this thread, the areas in red are what qualify under the recall.

You can see where someone tried to cover up all that rust with spray paint.

On the firewall above that spot is a drain that drips condensation from the heater core? That also contributes to the corrosion. The driver side spot of the stabilizer bar is no where as bad as passenger side usually. i don't know if the Sequoia have the same drain position I highly suggest running some tubing there and have it drip below the frame. I don't know if there ever was such a thing on the original. It would be wise to do so to help the new frame last longer. Chances are your rear cross member is just as bad may let you qualify for a new frame. Take your truck in and let the dealership do the inspection, worst thing they could say is no.

Does anyone know for certain whether the recall areas (the crossmember or the "red" areas of the SSC bulletin) stay covered for the life of the vehicle? Mine got the coating so is no longer eligible for frame replacement in the "green" areas, but it's beginning to rust heavy in the red areas from the first recall (vs the special service campaign)

If you got the coating, that is deemed a suitable repair and the recall is closed.

Took my 03 into dealership 1-11-21 in MUNCIE IN for airbag recall. Service tech advised of frame inspection, found rust. " by law we cannot let you have your truck untill frame replaced". Shocked me speechless. They going to replace frame to the tune of 12,000. As of now they cannot provide me with a repair date. Really burnt my butt. I am 2 months into my complaint process. Big run around.

Yes, originally they were obligated to loan me or provide me with a car. That was unacceptable so we negotiated to a 2020 Dodge Laramie 4x4 from Enterprise rentals. They pay for it all. That truck is very nice but a big wussy. I truly miss my 03 Tundra 4x4. That truck is a little beast. Almost undestructible I thought.

Well, maybe a PITA, but in the long run a good deal for you. If I was you I would be putting together a parts cache of stuff you want them to put on when they swap the frame. Essentially anything that has to be taken off and put back on should be a free labor charge if you provide the part. Guaranteed you will also get a list of parts that must be replaced at your cost that the rust has ruined when it's disconnected for the frame replacement and the recall won't cover it....be ready for that.

The service advisor at dealership mentioned a 150% over book value option. I have not found that information on any of my research. I seriously tried to deal with the dealership. They shoved me off onto the Toyota corporation. when I get around I will show some numbers and websites that they give me. Both 800 numbers are a joke
