Interesting. Maybe the 'makers mark' of somebody at quality control in the factory?

It is. My 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra all had/have dangling chains like this.

I turned my spare tire around so the valve stem was down. Now the chain doesn't rattle and I can check the spare tire air pressure without lowering it.

Turn the tire face down with valve stem face down less chain slack valve stem easy access.‍♂️

I was driving to work this morning and I kept hearing a minor noise coming from the back of my truck. I found it strange as I had not heard it before. I wasn't carrying anything metal in the bed as I normally do so when I got to work, I checked the undercarriage in the rear and sure enough I see a dangling chain. This got me concerned as so many people are experiencing car thefts that I became suspicious. My family used to drive a Ford Expedition and many years ago my wife was driving the Expedition, and I was following behind in another vehicle and all of a sudden, I see the entire rear of the Expedition rise high in the air. Turns out the spare came off, landed upright and caused the Expedition to bounce. Turns out someone had cut the cable holding up the spare in what I suppose was an attempt to steal it and they didn't get to steal it, but the tire came off later. Luckily there was no damage to the tire, the vehicle or any other vehicle or person. We both stopped, I collected the tire and loaded it in the back of the Expedition. A few days later I had to buy the lifting mechanism at an auto salvage yard, and we were back in order. So, when I saw the chain dangling, I thought for sure someone had jumped my fence and tried to steal the spare on my Tundra. Lo' and behold I now see that this is normal although I never heard it before. I've had the truck for about 4 years. Strange, but I'm glad things are okay. Thanks, Tundras.com!
