Does adding an Amp to the 2020 limited non-JBL double cab system a decent option

I don’t mind the premium head unit I have, but I like heavy metal (FFDP) and the current HU doesn’t have it..

Would adding an Amp be enough, or of course do I need to replace both the HU & AMP...
I don’t really want to lose how the current HU works with the dashboard & steering wheel.

I looked for threads premium double cab setups, but didn’t find any.

I’m a metal head too. I added a small amp and upgraded speakers first. While this was a tremendous upgrade, it was still missing the bottom end. I ended up adding an amo/sub combo.

I’ll have to dig and find a Double Cab Sub thread.... I really wish the current head unit had a better spectrum equilizer

Yeah the equalizer sucks. But once my amps went in, everything sounds pretty balanced. I’m sure a processor would make everything sound better.

I originally went the amp / speakers / sub route while keeping the factory head unit. Improvement over stock for sure, and sounded good. But was still lacking in quality across the spectrum.

Replaced factory head unit with new Pioneer 8600NEX, and am blown away. My stereo guy was also blown away at how it made the system as a whole remarkably better. i still have all my factory controls, so no loss in functionality.

Simply put, the factory head unit produces a truly junk original signal. There are a lot of downstream options to help, but it won’t make as big a difference given you are still working with the original junk source signal. Start at the source, and then work your way down.

I can attest to the MASSIVE upgrade in sound quality by just replacing the head unit.

I put in a Kenwood DMX906S and nothing else.
    Easily sounds twice as good.

The stock speakers really are not that bad and can handle more power than the crappy little stock amp puts out.

My next upgrade is an amplifier and sub. Bump the power to the existing speakers up too.

I upgraded to an aftermarket head unit and saw a little improvement. The biggest improvement was from upgrading the stock speakers and amp. Night and day difference. That's with out without adding a sub-woofer, but I highly recommend it.
