Whiskey is the correct spelling. Just as colour, neighbour and grey are correct.

Very good for sipping. Reasonably priced too. I managed to get that bottle for $35 at Costco. Tried some other cheap stuff from Suntory and they weren’t quite as smooth, or at all.

Johnnie green, and blue when duty free. Balvenie 12 and 14 Caribbean cask. McAllen 12 but the 21 is amaze balls. Glenfiddich 18 is great and the regular 12 tastes good and is cheaper than it should be.

If speyside and want that peat, Ardberg uigehdal or caol ila

For less than $30 this is an absolute bargain. Not as good as Belvenie 14 Caribbean Cask but not far behind. And for a 1/3 of the price a no brainer.

Whiskey or whisky is the right spelling depending on the country it is from. Countries that have an E in their name spell with an E. Countries that do not spell it whisky. i.e from Japan or Scotland it's whisky from Ireland or United States it's whiskey.

My favorite scotch is macallan. In fact that's my son's name haha. I usually prefer islays over the other types of scotch but they tend to be more expensive.IMG_20200703_185434.jpg

What’s a decent one, that’s got some peat to it, and isn’t going to be $60 per bottle?

Try bruichladdich ( pronounced Brooke laddie) their classic laddie is a 10 year that can be had for around $60 a bottle it is smoke forward but very mellow. Pairs great with a diesel unlimited cigar.

Ardberg can be had for less than 60. Just research a bit. Some are quite mild. Others well they are knock your socks off smokey

Not a scotch but it's the 4th I'm drinking Cascade American Blonde whiskey. And really is there anything more American than a good Churchill Maduro Cuban cigar. Happy 4th all! Enjoy and keep an eye on the fuse length.

Picked up a bottle of Speyburn. It came with water to “compliment it”(?) why?

Some whiskey when small amounts of clean purified water is added will open up more flavor. You just have to be careful to not add highly chlorinated. Or water with high mineral counts, that will affect the taste

OP’s favorite brands are also mine. Big Islay guy. Peaty, smokey is my thing. If it makes my wife gag smelling it from across the room I probably like it.

Yep in a normal 2 finger pour maybe try just a few drops. Then swirl and give it a chance to mix a bit

Yup. Add a few drops a drop at a time, tasting it after each drop to see how the water opens up the flavour.

Picked this up last night. Smooth finish, but needs more of the campfire taste to it.
