I received an email around 830PM from Tracy Toyota in CA that Toyota has put a stop sale on all Tundras.I'm going down there to test drive a 2017 Platinum tomorrow. I can still take a test drive but I can't buy. Just wanted to put out this info.

I'm sure it's because of the resin bumper bracket recall ...

I read a post on the forum where someone bought a Tundra a few days ago and he couldn't take it home. I believe it's for a recall on a bracket that needs replacing. He was pissed because they didn't tell him this until after he completed the paperwork. He has to wait until the new bracket comes in and the dealership couldn't tell him when that would be. I wasn't told the reason in the email but that is my guess. I'm still going down tomorrow for my test drive and possibly lock in a price.

Is that on all Tundras or just certain models?

It is on certain VIN # Trucks.
My dealer was able to locate one for a dealer trade that was not on the recall list.
    Took delivery 2 weeks ago.

I think I read that it was specific to the trucks with backup sensors in the bumper as they have the resin brackets instead of steel....or did I just dream that?

It says on the Toyota recall site that the bumper bracket recall is only on production through December 2016. I'm wondering if the dealers are free to sell Tundras made after that date? I have a Tundra on order that was scheduled to be manufactured yesterday, expected delivery in early March, and am wondering if they will be free to sell it to me.

I had the same thing happen when dealing on a Chevy truck. There was an outstanding recall on the truck, the dealers computers wouldn't allow them to look for incentives on that truck until the recall work was completed.

If it's got metal rear bumper corners, it's got metal brackets and is not part of the recall. So, SR5s should be unaffected. Limited, platinum and 1794 models that have the plastic rear bumper end caps have resin corner supports and are affected. It's not "parking" sensors that are the issue just the BSM (Blind spot monitoring). Parking sensors work fine in a metal bumper but BSM doesn't as it's scanning a larger swath and the metal bumper impedes the signal. The BSM makes it very difficult (impossible) to find an after market rear bumper and retain the BSM function. As far as I know, and I've searched extensively, there are no manufacturers producing a bumper that accommodates the BSM feature.

Can the dealership legally sell you a truck and not give it to you?

It's just the plastic bumper corners that's affecting your truck. The support bracket is the resin (that are being recalled) style for plastic bumpers and a metal bracket for the metal bumper corners.

A sale can occur before or during a stop sale legally. You are also able to cancel deal if you need too. (At least here in Ontario) As the terms can no longer be met that were agreed upon on the contract. If a sale occurs DURING the stop sale, you need to be made aware of the situation.

They can NOT deliver the vehicle once the stop sale has been issues by the manufacturer. Dealership wouldn't have been aware of the stop sale coming down the line for any pre-existing sales.
