Heard bad things about VA, they like when the word gets out. I avoid at all costs, VA.

I’ve been in VA for 15 years. It’s no different than any other state.

The difference is where what states consider reckless driving. My first ticket I ever got was 10 years ago when I was a dumb in my lower twenties I did 100 in a 70 in Johnson County Kansas. Here it is not seen as a reckless charge but I paid like 300 bucks in fines. That would have been a different story in VA. Kansas laws have not changed since then. That 300 hurt back then too. I am glad I have wised up since then.

I get it now, you guys were comparing the fines and penalties - I was comparing the way the roads are patrolled. I used to be a lead foot, but pretty much don’t speed anymore. I just do what traffic is doing...fines and insurance premium hikes hurts too much in the wallet.

GA has a "Super Speeder" fine -

"Georgia's 'Super Speeder Law' defines a Super Speeder as a driver convicted of speeding at 75 mph or more on a two-lane road or at 85 mph and above on any road or highway in the State of Georgia. In addition to the fines and fees paid to the jurisdiction where the speeding offense took place, a $200 Super Speeder state fee is to be paid by the convicted driver. Failure to pay the Super Speeder fee within 120 days of official notice will result in the suspension of the offender’s license or driving privileges. Payment of a $50 reinstatement fee in addition to the $200 Super Speeder fee will then be required to reinstate their license or driving privileges."

    But it's not reckless driving.....

Yes, usually flow with traffic. If you’re the lone vehicle on the road doing 15+ over, watch out.

I don’t think I’ve been stopped in over 10+ years, like to keep it that way. I don’t need a nastygram from the insurance company either.

I’ve had a total of 5 in my 30+ years of driving. Got 3 in a span of 3 years, my dumbass got two by the same state trooper in the same spot 6 months apart.

I actually had to switch insurance companies because of it. I’ve been ticket-free for 4-5 years now.

The latest - I took the driver improvement class via zoom. It was a bit of a cluster with a whole mix of people who didn't understand the tech or how the process worked. You had to stay on camera the whole time except for breaks. No test. It went roughly 6 hours and cost 80.00. They sent a certificate to the lawyer and now I wait until the beginning of August to finalize everything. I expect (based on convos with the lawyers office) that they're reduce the ticket to under 80 and it's be just a speeding ticket. Have to pay the fine/court fees in the 200.00 range. I have a couch in my office at home, so I took a screenshot at my desk and posted that as a virtual background for a little bit while I took a nap and listened off camera. :)

I was unfortunately stationed in Portsmouth for 5 years, couldn't move out of that place fast enough. Fucking dump.
Got pulled over just south of Richmond on my way home after a two month deployment doing... 6 over. Asswipe gave me a ticket even though I was in the slow lane being passed by other people. Same deal, holiday weekend. Regardless, I was speeding so I paid, sucked it up, haven't had a ticket since (That was 2011). Wasn't worth the money, traveling, and time it would've taken to fight it at that point and I had a deployment coming up so I wouldn't have even been able to attend to fight it and wasn't about to pay 3 times the amount of the ticket for a lawyer to contest.

Got tagged on my way home a year later in the same stretch of highway at 3am at the end of a 14 hour drive, I was behaving because I was literally the only car out for the last 50+ miles. My car was in cruise and I was sitting with my legs crossed on the seat (my ass was asleep), that's how I knew he was absolutely full of shit. I had cruise at 67 in a 65, he pulled me over and said I was doing 80. Asked to see the radar, wouldn't let me. I told him I was calling OnStar then because they were tracking everything and as soon as I hit the button he just said "slow down" and gave me my shit back. The cops in that area are douchey af, no matter how many "sir/ma'am"s you use.

Got about a dozen other stories of friends I was stationed with being nailed in the same area with the same bs.

Good luck. Don't speed down there.. They see everything.

In Missouri or Arkansas, they're pretty copacetic. I once got pulled over for doing *90* in a 55. (I have no excuse; had just gotten a new truck and holy crap did it ride smooth; I honestly didn't realize it was going that fast!)

Anyways....the cop asked me "You Jack's boy?" (My uncle was an announcer on the local radio station.) I told him that while I wasn't, I was indeed kin to him.

He winked @ me and said "Slow it down a bit." ROFL!

Kansas and Missouri are very forgiving when you get pulled over for speeding compared to where I used to live in Connecticut.

Yes. Once you have the special car, you can shake down an American for speeding, then speed away. In the USA they still pay the bill, every time.

Heh, that's why wife and I lived in Williamsburg. (That, and she worked in Richmond, so Williamsburg was 1/2 way between there and Norfolk, where I was stationed on the USS Enterprise.)

My wife is the one who thinks driving a bit below the speed limit is way worse than speeding. She's always yelling at me if I'm coasting in to a red light or letting my speed drop as I'm going uphill.

My wife is usually gasping about cute dogs. But she's not good at explaining where to look until after we've driven past them.

Isn't Virginia the only state that made radar detectors illegal? I think they also rank #1 for people driving with suspended licenses.

Most police departments in Florida wont even bother stopping you until 15 over. Last ticket I got was for 87 in a 65. No reckless driving, car towed, or even a tough cop speech. Wrote me a ticket and I was on my way again in five minutes.

    Good luck OP.

Last I knew it's VA and CT. Also here less than 10 over won't get you pulled, at least in my area. There are some places, especially along 460 and 58, where the speed limit goes up and down, some localities will sit with radar at the speed changes and get people for less than 10 over.

Well, we must be the last state in the nation that they're illegal. I remember an article from years ago about David Letterman getting a ticket for a radar detector in Connecticut.

So many questions, why did you pull david Letterman over so many times? Did you interrogate Sharon Stone? Did she have an ice pick? Did she try to seduce you, or expose herself?
