Sad Scratches

Went on a trail for the first time and I think I'm going to stick to mall crawling lol

Have a bunch of scratches on both sides

Did quick research and impulse bought some stuff cuz I wanted to fix my scratches ASAP

Went to Advanced Auto Parts and bought this orbital

Went home, cleaned sides, claybar and used Meguiars Compound and then waxed. It helped but the scratches are still there! Help please!

Is it the orbital that I got, I used the pads that it came with so I doubt I can return them, or is it the pads that I used? Or the compound or in general the detailing noob?

Man, it looked like you had a deep one but then I zoomed in and it was a street light.

 

I do believe a quality polisher and the right compounds will make a big difference. You should try and return that thing. I bought a quality setup off Amazon and it’s pulled some decent scratches out. I’ll look for the link

This is what I use. It removed scratches I didn’t think would come out and it has some polishers that come with it.

Wash it and tell them its defective..

 

I had a friend that worked at a detail shop, and he talked about a part wax part rubbing compound solution called cutter. It s used with a buffer and will remove deep scratches, but it takes skilled hand, and you can fry your pain in a heart beat if used incorrectly. IMHO a detail shop is your best bet unless you have an old fender or other body part to practice on. I tried it on an old Lincoln I used to have, and ended up with beautiful paint if it was wet, but when dry it was flat; like there was no clear on it at all.

There is a reason that polisher has a 2 star rating. Return they should take it.

buy griot g9
Lake county plate and pads
Boss correction cream and perfection cream. (Also griot)
Griots 3-1 ceramic spray
Might want a clay bar and decon as well

or take it to a shop

 

You need a DA polisher. If you wanna use meguiars get m105 and m205. Use cutting pads with the 105. Then polishing pads with the 205. I think a griots g9 with an orange pad from lake country and m205 would actually do the trick. Those don't look to bad.
An orbital is nothing more than a wax spreader, they don't have enough rpm or power to remove scratches.

 

Don’t try a high speed polisher if you have never done it. If I was near ya I’d hook you up. In this game you get what you pay for. If you like detailing your rides you will get a lot of joy using a g9 plus it’s lifetime warranty.

This is why i have 3rd Gen 4runner, narrower body = fits in tighter off-road places.

But that's not the solution i suggest for you. Instead take a pair of snippers, small hand saw and work the road before scratching things up. Yeah could take a while, but if you go thru trails as much as I do it is worth it, plus gives you something to do besides just sit there and drink beer, haha....

 

That one isn’t going to be very effective. I’d try to return it if you can. Ultimately it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do, so they should take it back. Like others have said, the Griots G9 is going to be your best bet.

 

For what it's worth, the scratches appear fairly minor...nothing a compound or maybe even a polish would take care of. If you're unsure of yourself, or would prefer not to take the plunge and buy a legit DA polisher, then take it to a local detail shop and have them take care of it. From that point forward, get yourself some Griots 3 in 1, some decent microfiber towels, perfect your wash method, and you're all set.

If you are the impulsive type and you have a Harbor Freight close to you, the Bauer 64528 and 64529 Models are comparable to the Porter Cable 7346SP.

I was able to get one for $60 with coupons. You’ll still need to get some pads. Detailed Image ships very quickly and has a large assortment of Lake Country pads. I like the SDO pads for the $$$

It was closer to Katy. Some guys on Tacoma group was going so I joined in. I didn’t expect it to be like that lol...it was fun though

if you can find someone you know that has done detailing with a polisher/buffer or paint correction that would be best if you're thinking diy. i prefer to take my vehicles to a professional detail shop. my 08 goes in next week for full paint correction, ceramicpro and i'm doing full truck xpel ppf which will help prevent these types of scratches. good luck.

Figured the return would not be a problem. Good news. I took my tundra to the Everglades one time and that was enough now I stick to using my fj off road

 

Took to a friend of a friend’s detailing shop, he said it’s too deep for him to buff it out...

 

you could try this. It's got filling properties. It's a bit finicky to apply.

I'm considering trying ccr, but I stopped caring about my pinstripes really. I'm just going to end up putting them back. Mine's black and it looks like it's wearing a pinstripe suite.
