Thoughts on platinum vs limited

Looking to get a 14 or newer Platinum or Limited CM 4x4. Thoughts on the differences in leather or any other obvious things that place on in front of the other? No rush to buy just looking for a truck that may have been traded on a 17.

 

I like the exterior styling better on the platinum, almost no chrome. the leather is nicer and the nut sack coolers are nice, power passenger seat, I also like the power fold mirrors. I also don't like the wood trim inside the limited. for me these reasons alone were worth the extra couple grand.

 

Ball coolers are worth the extra $$$.

 

I hate pulling in trucks with the ball coolers on... it just doesn't feel right. I don't like seat heaters either though so its whatever I suppose.

 

I choose the Limited over the Platinum. I'm glad I did. I Plastidipped all the exterior chrome today in a matte black. If I want ball coolers I'll drive my Lexus. The one thing I really liked in the Platinum was the cross stitching in the leather but couldn't justify the difference in money for cross stitched leather. To each his own....

 

I bought the limited because the platinum is about 5k more.

Limited has fake leather and it is hard , power fold mirrors is nice since the truck is wide so folding the mirrors make it 1.5 feet less wide. power passenger seat is always nice. does the platinum has power adjusted steering wheel? I love that feature

I don't care about the seat cooler or memory seat.

 

Yes the platinum has power steering wheel adjustment, it's also tied into the memory seats. so when you put the key in the seats and wheel go into position. when you take the key out the wheel lifts out of the way and the seat moves back

 

I chose the platinum 4x4 for the comfort of the ride and spending extra is worth it in the long term. I had a 13' SR5 wished at least got the Limited. So now I can do the other mods and still have the luxury...win win senerio

 

I love my 2016 Platinum, it sits a little lower and rides smoother than my previous 2014 DC SR5.

 

Love my 14 Platinum, no regrets, sits a little higher and rides like a dream.

 

I had a 15 SR5 and went to a 14 Platinum, so I guess you know how I feel on this...

 

The Platinum has puddle lights that need to be upgraded and the led drl. I went with the limited based on price. It rarely gets hot enough here to require grape fans in the seats.

Go Platinum. There are discounts to be had. I got almost $6k off sticker. Less than a TRD Pro. The leather is much nicer on the Platinum.

 

Wow, alot of the platinum features are on my old Limited, I guess they turned it into two trucks. I haven't been keeping myself up to date. My limited has power everything (steering column, folding mirrors), seat memory, real leather, puddle lights. I guess I'll hold onto it until they're standard in the limited again.

 

I went with limited due to costs. If I had to do it all over again I would have probably looked at a used platinum.

 

I was offered a platinum the dealer had for the same price as the limited I ended up buying. Only had about 1,000 miles on the platinum. It was awesome, but I really liked the TRD package rims on the limited. I also wasn't so much a fan of the stitching in the dash. I think the biggest thing that pushed me into the limited was the 18" rims. I need more tire for what I do with the truck. They're both amazing and I hope you find a dealer like mine that will offer the platinum to you same as the limited so you can base it purely on what you like in the truck.

 

the only option on the platinum that I wish my Limited had was the nut coolers...that shit is nice. To me, the sunroof, power fold mirrors, and memory functions weren't worth the extra money; they are nice options, I just didn't care one way or the other about them, which told me I probably wouldn't miss not having them.

 

They're both good units. Price and options drove me to buying a 14' Limited. I knew whichever I got I'd be dumping in additional money in mods, so I figured get the best priced unit with low miles and the options I wanted and go from there. Would have been pleased either way, but found what I wanted at a heck of a good price so am quite happy with my purchase.

I live on the northern front range, ball coolers are not necessary - but I do like the seat warmers.

 

Memory seats are nice for the family car, that's why I bought a limited. No need for my wife to have driver seat settings in MY Tundra.

 

Memory seats and color matched exterior bits were my main drive for the Platinum. I love it!!

 

I came over to Toyota from a Chevy LTZ, therefore I was used to all of the options listed above. Pretty much Pudge and the rest have said. When I looked at dealer web sites, I couldn't find a Limited with all of the options I was used to and the seats just seemed hard to me. And then there is the chrome..just too much chrome for me on the Limited. I didn't know at the time that the grill, surround and bulge could be swapped out so easily, but then there are bumper ends that would need swapping out. Memory seats? I like them for when the shop guys move my seat all around...just hit the button and its back again. Silly? May be, but I earned silly at this point in my life.

So I got the Platinum and am glad I did. Best truck I've ever had. Since buying her, I changed out the interior, puddle, cargo and backup lamps for LEDs which made a big difference. I got tired of the "auto-eject seat", so I turned off that feature and extended the time of the puddle lights using TechStream. I was used to the mirrors folding in automatically on the Chevy, so I manually fold them in when in public parking lots and car washes, etc.

It really comes down to what features do you want and what kind of a deal are you happy with? And since buying my Platinum, I've learned that there are a lot of mods out there, so its easy to "make it yours". Dealer installed the Toyota bed led kit as part of my deal and credited my running boards. Replaced them with AMP PowerSteps and sold the running boards on Craigslist (my first mod). Truck came with spray in bed liner, so I added BedRug bed mat and tailgate mat. Then I added a power tailgate lock from Pop-N-Lock and then came the TRD shift knob, skid plate and rear anti-sway bar (Platinum 2WD does not come with any skid plate, but I found a cheep TRD Pro take off on Craigslist). Never been much for 20" wheels so I am now in the hunt for a good set of take off TRD Pro 18" wheels/tires. The point is, you are going to make it yours anyway, so what do you want to start with?

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

 

I only have two problems with your story

1. Did you say you take your truck threw a car wash!!

Crazy weather everywhere. We've been seeing a lot of 80 degree days here. I found a Tacoma TRD Pro skid plate on Craigslist for my son, so we installed it last weekend. He has a 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road that came with the flimsy two piece crap; fixed it right! Much better protection. He does a lot of fishing and uses 4WD a lot. My Tundra is a highway queen! Lol. Glad I could help you out.

 

I found a great low miles 2014 CPO. 4X4 Platinum with 30K miles for 35,900.......Love this truck but hate to let Taco go.....buyers come Wednesday to finalize the deal.



Boy do I have some plans for the truck. Hope to see a bunch of you at the San Antonio meet on on 8 April!!
