Crux vs Maestro RR2

I’m getting ready to order the Kenwood DMX4707s and Crutchfield is bundling it with a CRUX interface adapter. I never heard of this till now. Is it sufficient enough for steering wheel controls, backup up camera and Sirius? I don’t care about GPS. I’m gonna use CarPlay for all of that.

I’ve got the basic crux (none wifi) in mine with my factory deck and love it.

I used the rca cable input function of the crux system to add in a media player so that I can stream video content over the head unit. My added media player is hooked up to 700Gb hard drive filled with video content. The touch functions do not work as it simply allows a pared device to be viewed over the screen. To use my media player I need to use a remote.

The Crux adapter will get you steering wheel controls, and there should be a separate adapter provided for the backup camera. You need to get an aftermarket tuner and antenna adapter to retain Sirius XM, though. Every now and then they'll run a rebate on the tuner, so watch out for that.

I just checked my old order and if you got the Crux SWRTY-61N Wiring Interface kit, that does include the camera adapter. The SXM adapter I got was

$40 SiriusXM SXV300V1 SiriusXM SXV300 Standalone Vehicle Tuner (Replacement-Antenna not included)

SiriusXM SXV300V1 Tuner for $70, but I think it had a $70 mail in rebate at the time. I think I also had to get

$30 Maestro Acc-SAT-TO2 Sat Radio and GPS Antenna adaptors for TO2 Vehicles

Maestro Acc-SAT-TO2 for the factory SXM antenna to work with the aftermarket tuner.

 

I’ll have to ask Crutchfield about the TO2 adapter because I want to use the factory antenna.
Did you have to get a separate tuner because your head unit didn’t have a built in tuner?

 

I just saw this as well on the Crutchfield site:

“This CRUX adapter's USB port does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.”

So I may have to address that.

If I could interject.... Maybe think about a different HU man... go up to the Excelon unit. It's only a few dollars more and you will get all the functionality at a easier interface. I got the DDX6906S and am very happy with it. The touchscreen in absolutely fantastic and responsive and the back up camera is a HUGE improvement and the ability to have gauges at your fingertips is well worth the few dollars. Wired CarPlay which works flawless.
With the Maestro, it was such an easy installation. And you will need the TO2. I have an extra if you need it. Free to a good home lol

The 6906 was originally what I wanted. I was gonna try to do the HU more on a budget which is why I picked the 4707. I may still do like I did when I put the amp speakers and sub in which is piece by piece. I’ll grab the Maestro and all the cables now and then next month I’ll get the HU when funds allow. That way I can get what I really want instead of trying to squeeze it into a set budget.

No worries brother. They do have an Excelon that is $100 less than the 6906 also. It's just an earlier model. I think it's $100 more than the 4707 and $100 less than the 6906.
Something to think about

 

I just put an Alpine in this weekend from Crutchfield and like you, all I wanted was Apple car play and keep my steering wheel controls... I got the Crux and it was an easy install. I’m very happy so far!

 

Nice! Are you using the USB port for CarPlay or does the W650 connect wirelessly to your phone?

I have the satellite radio/gps antenna adapters. Bought it by accident thinking I was going to use my factory gps antenna but went with the Kenwood antenna instead. Let me know if you want it.

 

It connects Bluetooth for music, but I’m using the USB for CarPlay.... and I love me some Maiden

 

I'm using the crux harness with a Kenwood headunit. Fairly certain carplay worked through the factory USB but was a bit laggy so I ended up removing the driver side cigarette lighter plug and put another USB input there. My headunit has 2 USB inputs so the factory USB is still functional for android auto or USB drives or whatever else.
